  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 5.0 ultimate and when leaving work yesterday everything was fine with my HUD. However, after about 5 minutes of driving I noticed a part of my HUD was dimming/getting blotted out. It was really weird, it spread and completely covered my turn by turn instructions and speed, I couldn't see anything on the HUD. I was positive my HUD was messed up and the lcd inside had leaked out and washed the display out or something.

I put my hand on the HUD unit and wiped but it didn't help. However, after a couple minutes it started to return to normal and now it's like nothing happened. I think there must have been condensation or something inside the unit and it fogged the screen up.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does this indicate my unit has a flaw or damage etc? I have an extended warranty so I don't mind taking it in if needed. I got my car at the end of summer last year so I don't know if this is to be expected in warmer weather (FL).

Probably not condensation, the display controller may be failing. Was it a whitish hue that crept up from one side?

I've had this happen once on a hot day. I thought the LCD cracked and started leaking but as the AC dried out the air, it slowly came back. Hasn't happened since.

Maybe it was the heat and not the humidity. LCDs don’t do well it high temperature situations.

If it was the heat, I suspect it would've affected the 2 other large LCDs in the car. The HUD does have a cover over it that could gather condensation. A hot day in Vancouver is like 30 Celcius, average summer day is like 25. If it was the heat, there'd be a lot of complaints in hot dry places like Vegas.

When it happened, the HUD was working fine then it started to get blotchy at one end. It spread to about half the screen and it came back. I've only had this once, probably that initial burst of moisture in the HVAC when I first fired up the car.

Weird I never got a notification someone replied to this. It kinda spread from the center. I actually had it happen again and this time I had a windshield cover up so it was definitely not that hot. Adding pics so you guys can see what it looks like, I took these just a few mins from each other.

The pic going over the bridge just happened recently, when I had the dash covered by a sun shade all day. It's hard to tell since it's so bright but the edge of the speed limit sign in the hud is faded, along with all the other notifications above it.

I had the same thing happen twice where the HUD display vanished behind "fog". Both times when it occurred, it happened when it was both very sunny & hot in the summer with A/C on.

It's from that initial bust of A/C. It blows out the humidity that collected in the system while it was parked. Sometimes you see it fog up the windshield a bit too.
