Hi all just joined,

I am planning on buying my next car at the end of June, I have been eyeing the 2015 Genesis 3.8 for awhile now, First off, I live in Canada and the dealer in my area had 2 AWD models, 1 with 58KM for 22.9K and another with 89KM for 21K. I first Test drove the 89KM car and thought it was ok but just did not feel right, for some reason when I was done, even though they are Identical cars I asked to Test Drive the 58K Genesis and WOW! The Sound from the Engine was totally different from the first, sounded much better with Beautiful Grown the first did not have...The Salesman at the end had to agree with me and could not explain it, he is getting the first Testdriver checked out as we speak.

Sorry for being long winded, the strange part is the 58KM Genesis has a Big Carfax Blemish of 12K Accident repair and the other is clean but does not feel anywhere as good, Could anyone please give their thoughts?

Thanks so much,
BGB

Me? Rarely will I even consider a car that's been in an accident. Especially one with the amount of electronics and seemingly tight tolerances as the Genesis. An accident can easily cause something to happen down the road. Not a good thing when repairs on this car are so expensive. Now...that's just me.

Were I in your situation, I'd keep shopping and comparing them to each other.

EDIT: The experienced cynic in me says...of course the salesman agreed. That's what they do. And I doubt he's getting anything checked out.

Thanks for that Bourbon, I believe I will....

My G80 had $6k in damage and is now perfect. I guess it depends on what the damage was and how well it was repaired. I'd want to know more and I'd want a better price. If the overall deal is good, perhaps have a body shop check it out.

My 2015 AWD had a carfax accident report as well but it turned out one of the guys who worked at the dealership hit a stop sign while moving around the car and it required a bit of repair to front bumper. You could never tell anything happened and the car has been problem free and a dream to drive. I guess what I am saying is, dig in to find out what happened in the accident then make decision.

There are a lot of cars that have been in accident and it has not been reported so people don't even know. I had 2007 Acura TL which was sold to me with rebuilt title and guy claimed that car was involved in one accident. After a while, it turned out that the car was involved in 2 more accidents in the past.

Look at this beautiful BMW:
2017 BMW 530i xDrive Sport Line

Guy is selling it with clean title.
Same car:

(if you want to see more pictures of that BMW change 1L to 2L at the end of the link. You can see all 10 pics)

I personally would not buy another car with rebuilt title or accident on the record unless it was my last car on earth and I was getting hell of a deal. It is hard to resell and you will get a lot of low ball offers and it might take months to sell it.

Other than possible mechanical issues, that's the other big reason I won't get one with an accident on the Carfax.

Hi my friend,

I bought lots of cars in my life. New and used. With and without accidents.
Don’t buy a car with accident especially if you are going to think about it in the future. Anything that goes wrong with it you will connect it to the accident. When you are going to sell it they will lowball you to the death.
If the other car which doesn’t have accidents doesn’t feel right just pass on it.
Shop around. You will find a better deal.
I also live in Canada and bought mine a few months ago. Be a little bit patient and shop around. Don’t get stock to the salesman trap. They are going to sell you a car as fast as they can and as expensive as they can. Find the right car which you really like it in a reputable place. Then sit tight with the salesman and negotiate for price and your trade in value.
You will save thousands of $. believe me.
Reasonable interest rate in canada for good credit score is 4.99 to 5.99.
Don’t fall for 7.99 scam.
Good luck.

Hi guys,

So I heard back from the Hyundai Dealer and here is what he offered, I would love to hear your thoughts...this is a direct quote from the email.

"Hey Billy, I ran some numbers for you. The 2015 Genesis, on a 72 month term @3.99% is $160.91 Bi weekly. That includes taxes, fees, interest, registration also included is a 10 year 200,000 km bumper to bumper warranty, which covers parts like ball joints, struts, control arms, tie rods etc. and labor to install. We’ll also give you a free set of winter tires with the car."

So the Car is a V6 AWD and has 58K on it, it was in an accident as per the Carfax and it Testdrove like a dream. I would love to hear your thoughts on this? the car itself is the lowest price in Canada at present via dealer search/kijiji and Autotrader.

Thanks Everyone!

What's not to like? Car drove well. Great warranty. Price you like?? Sounds like a deal.

Cars with accident history doesn't bother me. My Genesis has been in IIRC, 3 all front end. Still some residual damage up there that I am going to tend to myself. Also, my other ride, a '13 Subaru has been hit twice by deer. First time $11k in damage. Still drives like a dream/factory.

So, what's not to like?

Not too familiar with how things work in Canada as far as pricing goes, so my only suggestions is to get the details in writing on that warranty. Sounds too good to be true. And if they're giving you free tires and a bumper to bumper warranty...my guess is that they gave practically nothing for that car and have a ton of cost available out of it. I'd haggle to try and get a lower price. Especially with the almost 60K miles and a significant accident on file.

But, like I said, I'm not familiar with car buying in Canada. This might be perfectly normal.

I was in the same situation a few years ago. I bought a 2009 Genesis V8 loaded with $13000 accident from a dealer. Looked brand new and Drove like a dream until I sold it. I got a good deal because of the history.
Please read my previous post again. It's your call but if you ask my opinion I would say Don't do it to Yourself.
My car had the accident from rear right. After 2 years I spotted water in the trunk. Everything was socking wet. I got it fixed. Then there was a rust on the rear fender. So ugly and annoying. After that another rust spot underneath they trunk whether stripping.
The extended warranty that they offer in Canada is not something comparable that people get in the US. It's just an insurance policy with insane amount of deductibles for every claim. For every repair you need to get the insurance company approval before proceeding with the repair. Please ask them who is the extended warranty with and share the answer here. And ask them what is the deductible for every claim on the policy?
IMHO it's not a good deal. Pass on it. They just want to make it sweet to sell this car to you because nobody wants it!

Well, are you the kind of person that will think issues or noises arising in the future are/could be from the accident?
I am.
And for that reason I'd always second guess my decision and then talk myself out of the car way too soon.
For that reason, I'm out.

I would want to look at where that 12K repair was done, Im usually not too concerned about repairs that were done under insurance, Mine had 4 fender benders around 2K each but they were all fixed properly (except for some missing fairing clips** but that could have been a sloppy oil change) and didn't worry me. Otherwise sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Hi guys,

I have decided "with your help" to pass on this, they would give no more details on the accident either....Oh Well, back to the Drawing board....

Thanks again!

I really think you made the right move by passing on it.

Hi all,

So, I got some bad news today, they sold the Genesis before I could get it, that is the bad....the good is they have a 2015 Grey Hyundai Genesis 3.8 that has more miles but 1500.00 less however, the Engine sounds nothing like the first one I drove. I never noticed but, could my drive mode effect the sound of the engine? this one was much quieter, did not have the nice V6 Growl the White one had...

Thanks again gang!

Are you sure no one messed with the exhaust on the first one? Some people will cut holes or modify them sometimes. Both the 3.8 and the 5.0 are pretty quiet by design. I know my 5.0 doesn't sound like a typical V8 in any way, and I'd assume the 3.8 would be similarly quiet or more so.

I've had two 3.8 Genesis and they are quiet. The growl you heard may have been a hacked exhaust. It also may have been driven hard to make it growl. This may actually be the better of the two.
