  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've searched for the answer on the forums, but have as yet been unsuccessful.

I'm considering a used 2018 G80 3.3t with below 15k, as it's about 10k less than what the dealer is offering (for now...they have also been sitting with my preferred color for five months).

Am I correct in thinking the only real non-obvious trade-offs to buying used are that I lose the 10/100k power train warranty and the three-year valet maintenance and service? I currently drive a used Sonata and have had no issues with the 6/50k I ended up with by buying it pre-owned (from Hertz, no less).

Thanks y'all!

I think you have overlooked a very obvious con. You are buying a car that someone else didn’t want. Don’t you have to wonder why? Yes it’s under warranty but you may be in for a hassle

If everyone thought this way, nobody would ever own a used vehicle. So your statement is a bit too extreme IMO.

We bought our 2015 in late 2016 with 5000 miles on the odometer and it's been a great car with no issues.

Buy from a reputable dealer and you'll be totally fine.

I agree. This is an off-lease with an in-service date of about a year ago. Rather than discuss the pros and cons of buying a used car generally, I was asking relative to Genesis, specifically. In any event, if it's a warranty issue, I'd likely have had it too even if I were the first owner.

Off lease it is probably OK. There are people that buy a new car every year just because they want a change and they can be a good deal. I had a neighbor like that and his old cars were always sold the same day it was traded in as it was a good deal.

Another friend will not buy a car newer than three years old as he feels it is the best value. I guess we need each other to make the system work for all of us.

Would not recommend buying an older used German car but it seems to Genesis is rocksolid. very savvy auto shop owner friend of mine calls BMW " brings me wealth" and my used Mercedes was chronically sick . He says he almost never sees Genesis in his shop.

There are many G70's and 80's out there with less than 500 miles. Were promotion cars for the PGA tournaments

A banker friend of mine told me there's a lot of people who simply buy more than they can actually afford. Like, a lot. Then we end up getting into the usual debate where he calls me a communist because I say many (most?) people need protection from themselves and if places wouldn't lend them the money this wouldn't happen.

Seems the thought process of buying a car varies quite a bit among buyers. Meaning some people actually go through a thought process and many don't. They just think about step 1 with no regard to 2, 3, 4...

I literally would not take a used out-of-warranty German car if you gave it to me. After having owned a Mercedes and a Mini...never again.

If you live in a larger city, I think those are the way to go. Unfortunately, in the hinterlands the transport cost to get the car here (or fly me there) to buy it (almost) on spec make the savings disappear.

I’m considering buying a used G70. One question — does the 36 maths of complimentary maintenance and valet service transfer to a new owner? Thanks!

No. You also only get the balance of the 5/60k, not the 10/100k

Hi there. I guess only you guys can help me. My father has always been obsessed with the Nissan Silvia, so I'd like to buy it for him. His birthday is coming soon (March 23rd), so I want to buy him that car as a present. So, I need your help.

If you'd like to chip in, you could send the money to me, and I'll make sure that it gets to the right person.

Buying a used car can be a great way to save money, but it's important to be aware of the trade-offs. A used car may not have the same warranty or maintenance perks as you would with a brand new car. When buying a used car, you need to do research. Check the car's service history, get a pre-purchase inspection, and take the car for a test drive. These steps will help you get a sense of the car's condition and any potential issues. And you can always negotiate with the seller to get the best price.

Honestly, why wouldn’t you buy used? Someone else paid for that depreciation and the car was only new until he drove it off the lot (every car is a used car). So with that theory, I have only bought used in the past 15 years.

If it’s a Certified Pre Owned and you get the warranty, there is nothing to be be concerned about. Most luxury car owners do not beat the sh*t out of their cars. We ain’t talking about a ’98 Civic now are we?

I agree with your statement. But used car prices, up until recently, have been so high, the difference was not as much as it use to be. And for the Hyundai, you get the additional 5 year warranty on the drive train that you don't get if you buy used. I got rid of my last car because the 4 year warranty was up and I saw what things cost to fix on it. One of the reasons I got this car was the long warranty. I plan to keep this car for a while. I will never hit 100,000 mine before 10 years so I don't have to worry about the big stuff for 10 years.

Different people want different things and there is nothing wrong with which either way you go.

I was fortunate to buy my current G90 new (untitled) as a demo. VPs car. The clock started on the day I bought.

Something similar, I got a new 21 in Feb of 22. It had been sitting on the lot for some unknown reason. (Well that is what they told me and maybe I don't want to know why) so when they were charging well over sticker, I got mine for under sticker. the year on the title did not make any difference to me, so I grabbed it up. It was the warranty I was after and there was no difference in the 21 or 22 that I could tell.
I have not had any issues with it so far, but I only put about 5,000 miles on it.
