If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My husband and I are considering a 2016 Genesis with either the Tech or Ultimate package, and AWD. Why does one car we’re looking at have the Hyundai logo—and another car (similar mileage) has the Genesis logo? And the Genesis trunk logo vehicle is far more expensive. Thoughts?

Biggest differences in asking price for same year vehicle are usually the condition, mileage, car history (collisions?) and features. Ultimate will cost more than Tech (more goodies) even if both have similar mileage/condition. AWD can also impact price.

Yes, we are aware of that. The two cars were looking at are:
Brown Genesis 2016, Ultimate, AWD, 40K — HYUNDAI LOGO on trunk
Red Genesis 2016, Tech, AWD, 40K — GENESIS LOGO on trunk

The brown car is priced at $8K less. I thought the ‘tell’ might be the Hyundai logo in the trunk. Why the different logos—and is this why the large price gap?

Thank you!

Having just purchased my 2016, I think you're gonna love it should you pull the trigger. Genesis has been sold under the Hyundai brand since inception. The model change for 2015-2016 was still under Hyundai before being branded simply as Genesis from 2017 forward (think Toyota-Lexus and Nissan-Infiniti although they have always branded them as their own brand. The first thing most new owners do if they purchase one with a "Flying H" as it's called, is changing it to the Genesis Wings. I feel eventually they will all be switched over...

Good luck with your purchase.

Maybe cause it's red?
Seems strange that the Ultimate is priced lower.
The wings are a $10 part.

different dealership? Ultimate has a lot more goodies, the place with the red one is probably just trying to get a nice margin on it. As stated above the wing logo was added by a previous owner, it should not impact the sale price unless the salesman thinks he can swing it as some kind of exclusive.

It's quite possible they don't know it's an Ultimate (or that Ultimate is the top package). A lot of non-primary dealers will look up the rough packages in a vehicle and make a guess as to their equipment. Such as valuing a car with the 8" Carplay over the 9.2" non-Carplay car. I got mine for a steal because an Audi dealer didn't know it was the better packaged vehicle.

Exactly. I've been watching the prices for three straight months now almost daily and there is a wide range disparity across the board. Until I saw a deal so good I couldn't pass it up - so traded my Base '15 bought only three months ago for a '16 Ultimate for only very little $ more.

Hey Surprisinguy, is your Genny lowered?

Could just be the perception of Hyundai versus Genesis and the dealer is trying to capitalize on it. Brown was not a popular color and that may be a factor.

Depending on actual asking price, the brown may be the deal of the year. Or it may be a typical price versus gouging. Also depends on what the dealer actually paid. Check for accident damage too.

Seeing your new post, the price seems OK, not a great buy. That is what my 2015 Ultimate sold for at the dealer I traded it to 18 months ago.

Thank you all for your help. This is the Genesis we’re feeling the most pull to: https://www.dicksmithhyundai.com/used/Hyundai/2016-Hyundai-Genesis-2729bd3a0a0e0ae86ddfa75dabe88dea.Htm

Any thoughts on the price?

I would recommend you do a quick search (here: https://www.carfax.com/cars-for-sale) for your zip code and enter how far (miles) you're willing to go to purchase. Make sure to narrow your search by selecting the criteria on the left (from the top down or it resets). I'd recommend checking Certified Pre-Owned too if you plan on keeping it a while (something I didn't do the first time around), as well as select the filter for No Accidents.

I think Ed brings up all the right points, could be any one or a combination of why such a price difference. But as you see from mine below (link), the prices can get low. They lowered the price on the one I purchase by 3200 in ONE month. And it's the Ultimate, now Certified, and has fewer miles than the one you posted above albeit close. And I know geographics come into play too.

Hope this helps. I'm sure the more seasoned Genny owners and long-term forum'ers can add much more.

Thank you! We’re trying to get the price down—I was wondering what others thought of the price.

My husband is adamant that it be AWD (we live in the mountains of western NC). So, a 2016> Genesis with the Tech or Ultimate package, AWD, under 45K mileage. He doesn’t want black and I don’t care for white (red is our preference).

It’s been a challenging pursuit . . .

Price is at least $2500 too high in my opinion. My 2015 5.0 Ultimate was $22k with 49000 miles.

Hmm, yes that does add a wrench into the mix - the AWD may make your search a bit tougher. You may have to expand your search area to find what you're looking for. And, $28k is too high as Suburbazine stated above.

yes it is :)

Could see that right off the bat! 🧐

I may eventually put on some nice aftermarket wheels and not a fan of large wheel gap. Yet also don't want the low-rider look. Yours looks good, what springs/shocks did you use and what was the drop?

I used Storm Springs, also replaced 18" oem wheels with 19" oem wheels - not sure of the drop though. Looks great, handles well - no rubbing.

Thanks surprisinguy! Looks like a 1.0-1.4" drop in front and up to 1.2" in back - I wouldn't want any more than that. The 19's look good too! (y)
I'll eventually go 19's or 20's depending on the wheel.
