  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mine's a 3.8 Ultimate. Branded title due to flood. Purchased with 38k mi. No major issues yet (other than the CAN bus C problems, the reason for totaling the car. I will report on that in a week or so).

Drive train is great, though I do have the fluttering front propshaft many here have. It only lasts a few minutes when cold. The engine has a slight 'kick' when first starting, as if it has too much ignition advance. Inside mirror could be tighter. If you push the garage door button without supporting it, it will move. Front bumper cover has some peeling top coat. Rear bumper cover has some yellowing on the top at the trunk lid. The black plastic panels between the side windows has what looks like hard water stains that I cannot get out, no matter what I rub on it.

The previous owners had some repairs right after buying the car. Replaced the passenger seat back assembly, front radar cover, rear window sunshade and replaced the Hankook's with Pirelli's.

Minor stuff here. Not a lot to complain about. Time will tell though. You may be paying for those bells & whistles a second time. (34 CAN bus modules on the Ultimate, 37 on the 5.0L)

One of the reasons for buying this car is my wife had a '07 Santa Fe for seven years and other than a few headlight bulbs, the only items we replaced were the battery, tires and brake pads. Zero trips to the dealer.

This is a fantastic vehicle and is by far the best bargain in a luxury car. If you're not mechanically inclined (fortunately I am), out of warranty repairs and parts will be expensive. My local dealer's service manager has been very accommodating with me asking technical questions.

Flooded, Ultimate no less, you are a brave man! 🍺

isiacandjess, I have a 2015 5.0 and 2016 ultimate for 8 months , most things that have gone wrong thus far are trivial, such as trunk auto close, sunroof gots stuck open plus few minir stuff..

Since I am planing to keep these two for at lease 7 years, spending an extra 5-7% on warranty was a no brainer for me.

However if I would had to go without warranty, I would have gone with the base model, since eliminating most of the extra complexity would have been the way to go.

IMHO the tech & ultimate without warranty simply equates to rolling the dice...

Good luck...

I'm on an extended warranty plan. Had to replace the head unit due to it not being able to interface with the ipod media controls while plugged in (ie track forward/back when connected via cable, not bluetooth). Dealer tried to BS it as a "iphone software upgrade" issue.

Had it been out of pocket I think it would've been 1.5-2k out of pocket but its not a huge issue if you don't care about the inability to skip tracks. I was reduced to doing it on my apple watch so there are alternative :p

Other issue is sunroof but given that settlement thing, sunroof warranty extended? If it creaks you might be able to get it done via warranty arguing it might shatter.

Mine has no warranty, no real issues (some creaking and miner things). So far I have had good luck with Hyundai products so I'm not too worried. I have the tech package so not as many fancy gizmos to go wrong vs ultimate. In Canada too so the sunroof thing hasn't got this far yet, pretty much the only thing that gives me some concern.

IMO I consider those to be major concerns on any car with luxury aspirations. I can live with a corolla creaking (We have one now that does that :X) but hopefully the warranty will get applied to Canada too.

I didn't buy it to be a luxury car, although those aspects are nice I just wanted a large car with awd. The few used domestics that fit that bill have worse issues then creaking. The value for your money is so good on these cars I can overlook these kind of things. I also like it be able to work on my car a bit without having to worry about voiding a warranty.

68K and still going strong. One of the big ticket items - Ultimate headunit had already been replaced by the previous owner under warranty. Mine did have high miles when I bought it but they were mostly highway - I live in Texas where distances are measured in hours...! It was in shockingly great condition with extensive maintenance records & still even smells new. I had come across specimens that had half the miles that were in far worse shape inside & out.

As for warranty, I keep a separate savings account for repairs should they occur...

Hey if you don't care then np, fair enough friend. I consider the value for money a fair deal but only factoring in the warranty :p

Working on your car is a complete non-issue as unless the dealer and prove something you did that's at fault, everything oem is still under warranty. They'll try to BS you (Shady bunch of folks :X) but if you just waive a lawyer in their face usually they'll back down.

Also Canada has domestic cars? :P

lol yep... I should also mention that my nearest Hyundai dealer (never mind Genesis) is a 3hr drive away, so that factors into my warranty calculation.
