Installing subwoofer. Can't access stock sub/amp wires

I saw the other sub post but they didn't show how to take apart the trunk.

I need to get to either the stock subwoofer or the Amp for my sub install. The top carpet is full of rivits and the side doesn't look like it's coming out without the top because of the overlap. I can't reach the amp wires through the left access hole either.

How do I get to them?

It's a pain but it looks like you will have to drill out the rivets. For $20 you can pick up a hand riveter, some rivets and to be safe, a drill stop or collar so you don't drill through something you don't want a hole in. Those will be metric sized but I'll bet you can drill and replace with 5/32". That way you will have useful rivets for you next project. With all the plastic push-rivets in this car, I wonder why they opted to use metal rivets for those panels?



Installing a better sub is on my list. Let us know what you are using and how it turns out.

They pop out. On the reverse side of those rivets is a white plastic fastener that can be pulled out (no tools required). Here is the underside showing the fasteners after removing the top panel. The rivets hold these fasteners to the panel.

There are three metal clips on the front edge of the panel (beneath the weatherstripping). Left, center and right. To release the end of the panel, these three clips slide off the end of the car body. You’ll have to pull back the weatherstripping to get at them.

Not necessary!!!! The upper trunk panel just pulls off like mentioned in post #3.

Just pull the upper trunk trim panel off like mentioned in post#3. I did a thread about tapping into the factory amp, but figured the trunk panel was easy enough to figure out so I did not go into detail on removing the trunk trim.

Yeah... As I noted, rivets didn't make sense. I should have thought a bit more about that. Thanks for posting those pics. That saved some headaches.
