  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed that my key fob stopped working and the car wouldn't start unless I insert the fob in the slot. Door open/lock, trunk open and panic button don't work either. I changed the batteries but same story. Is there anything I could do personally to get it to work?
I'd appreciate a timely response, please.
Thanks.

Batteries in correctly? Polarity?

Hi Fredder,
Yes, battery correctly placed but still no "life" in the key fob. Any suggestions?!

Did it get wet? If so then you may need a new fob from the dealer.

The Genesis comes with two key fobs. Does the other one work?

I would double check that the key fob was reassembled correctly and that the battery was placed with the correct side up. If you have volt meter, you could check the voltage of the battery (and maybe the old battery if you still have it).

When you press the buttons on the fob, do you see a small red light blink? If the light is weak or does not blink each time you press the buttons, then the battery or fob itself is defective. I had the dealer take apart my fob and replace the battery for $10 and my issue went away. Let the dealer change out the battery for only $10. If still does not work, then move on to plan b replacing the fob which might be expensive

usually that indicates the batteries are getting weak. My experience

I am having the same identical problem as above. I replaced batteries in both key fobs and tested them. Neither will operate locks, trunk, etc. I have to start car with fob in the slot. Car had been sitting for 4 months (snow birds), but started right up with fob in slot. Any ideas

99% of the time it's the FOB batteries. Make sure you get fresh CR2032 replacements, not something that's been sitting around in a junk drawer for years. The replacements should be flat. If they're swollen or bulged out at all don't use them, they're old and already failing.

My 2013 won’t lock the car but I can unlock and pop trunk. When I press the lock it only flashes a red light. Can someone help

consider replace battery in fob

Just to pile on. I've seen the battery connector solder joints fail on fobs for other cars. Basically required heating up the solder joint until it's liquid and then letting it cool off.

I am currently having the same problem. I have 2 fobs, one has never been used, the other used for 7 years. Changed batteries in both. . . still won't work. Dealership says I need two new fobs at $405 each. Logic tells me that it is not the fobs, but the computer in the car that is not communicating with them. Am I crazy? Anyone have any answers? My 2012 Genesis 3.8 has only 44,000 miles on it.

If it's like mine (2009 Genesis sedan), the positive side of the battery isn't making good contact with the tiny strip of metal on the side of the battery compartment. I took a small piece of rubber band ( xsection 1/8" x 1/16", 3/16" long, and, using a pin, inserted it under that metal strip. That did the trick. The negative side of the battery makes very good contact and needs no improvement. wilmack

When I put in my fob into the ignition my seat doesn’t automatically go into the correct position, like it usually does, & when I pull it out, there’s a weird noise, does that mean it’s an electric problem or battery

Same issue I had . I replaced the battery several times it worked for a bit but then started acting crazy , soon as the dealer replaced it it's been working pretty good !
