  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Before you add subs to your DH - try this

Hi. I posted a thread last night, it’s gone today. Admins, please let me know if I didn’t follow a rule.

Here’s a free mod. For better bass response, drop the rear armrest and open the pass through. Basically, thinking of the trunk as a sub enclosure, you’re changing the enclosure type from sealed to ported.

We have a 2011 4.6 with the 17-speaker and just bought a 2015 Ultimate. Compared to the 2011, the 2015 doesn’t reach as deep. Kind of disappointing.

With the pass through open, bass response in the 2015 is much improved. To my ear the very lowest frequencies are still more pronounced in the 2011 and the 2015 is a little muddy at the bottom, but mid bass is better than before and there is more overall bass presence with the pass through open than closed.

This trick won’t satisfy everyone but for some ears the improvement will be enough to take a pass on spending the money to add a sub. Your mileage may vary.

Sounds plausible. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Thanks

Didn't rattle my fillings, but was better. Thanks

Wow that actually kinda works...

The stock sub actually sound good with the trunk open and with the rear seat armrest/passthru down. Hyundai should have installed two subs in the rear deck to account for the insulated trunk and it would sound perfect stock without upgrading.

However, I do not like the ideal of just riding around with my rear seat pass through open just to get some extra bass from the stock sub so I upgraded.

I just picked up a 2015 ultimate. The sound is... not good. Bass is too muddy and doesn't have any punch at all. I knew the quality of sound from the test drive, but it was jjuuusstttt barely below the deal breaker threshold so I proceeded with buying the car.

In anycase, I'll try the pass through tonight, but those who have installed subs or upgraded their sound system, did it work? Was the bass much crisper?

Oh yes. The Lexicon system sounds perfect with a bit more low end punch. I use a 15in subwoofer and it produce some hard hitting bass through the well insulated trunk even with the rear seat arm up.
