2019 Genesis G80 sport insurance question

Insurance is a racket so check different companies. Staying with a given company for years doesn’t really pay off like most think. When I get hit with a large rate increase when never having a claim I check around and end up moving to another carrier. Being with my present carrier for 10 years means nothing when it come down to rates. I think most carriers assume they can slip in increases and folks will just roll over and not shop around. Not a Genesis owner just yet and my first quote on a G70 was more than twice my G37S. Already have quotes 40% less by moving carriers which tells me being with a single carrier for 10 years does nothing. We are all just numbers.

I’ve been with State Farm for over 35 years. Whenever they send me a letter of a rate hike I go get quotes from other carriers and present them to my agent with the option to match it or cancel my policy, he matches it every time. While his commission gets reduced when he does I’m sure, I think he sees the bigger picture, a small reduction in commission is better than losing a customer that has been a sure thing for 35 years.

I thought mine was high. It went up about $30 per month with the G80 Sport over my Honda Accord Turing.

Vehicle Level Coverage Items

$500,000 each accident $343.30
Medical Coverage $10,000 each person $28.70

Towing and Road Service Not Covered
Glass Deductible Buyback $9.50
Loss of Use K5: $50 per day/ $1,000

$51.90

$655.80 for 6 months. After seeing yours I don't feel so bad. But I have $1250.00 deductible on collision and comprehensive. If it is less than that I would rather just pay for it. You really save alot for the lower deductible. I have only had a few accidents in 43 years of driving and they were very minor. So I have saved way more than I have paid out by having the higher deductible.

Never thought of that before and good idea. Not sure how commissions work with agents and if they get commissions at every renewell or just upon writing the initial policy? I like my agent and won’t switch carriers for small changes. I’ll try the matching routine once I get closer to pulling the trigger on a G70.

They get paid on renewal also. Small change no big deal, but when it came to a lot of dollars, my agent called to tell me not to renew and she would find me a better deal. She did.

USAA, 2 cars ('15 Camry and '18 G80 Sport)
With what appears to be slight more coverage, the total 6 month bill is $1158. Adding up the G80 Sport, it appears to be $743 which would then make my wife's Camry clock in at $415.

USAA for 59 years! And never a problem with them.

Been with USAA since 1991. As the agent told me, you pay based upon many factors...one being engine displacement. I paid almost $300/per 6 months on my last car (2013 Taurus SHO).

Thinking about a G80 sport. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Currently in the pre purchase research phase :). I am looking in to the post purchase cost of ownership and I was a bit surprised by the insurance quote I received for 6 moths. Wondering if this is normal and if you have any ideas / thoughts on reducing it. The quote was from Geico. I have my current cars insured with Geico and they are pretty competitive compared to other insurance providers for my area. I am 40, married and from Houston, Tx if that helps.

I was shocked as well. I'm 34 and live in Houston as well and my premium is 1800-1900 for annually and that is for a 1k deductible.

That is some crazy numbers assuming your driving record is clean? I had been paying $1200 annually for two cars, a convertible and an Infiniti. Whenever I pull the trigger on a Genesis, my rates are going to spike considerably if I stay with my same carrier.

If you use Geico, it'll be worth it to buy a share of BRK.B (215ish atm) for a 8% discount on your premium.

Go to an independent agent, they can get quotes from many companies. The higher deductible doesn’t save you that much per year. For me it was a $50 dollar difference between 500 and 1500 deductible. I am way over insured and pay under 1700 a year for a G80 and an Elantra.

To see if it’s the turbos are dictating the price pull a vin for an G80 Ultimate, the G80 Sport and then the G80 with the Sport Package which is the look of the Sport but the 3.8 which was the Premium package. The last one should be the least expensive in theory.

Quite happy with my coverage. I have progressive.

Were you already a Progressive customer prior or did you switch carriers? I got a good rate quote from Progressive on a G70, but worried it’s a new customer rate and after 6 months the rate will jump.

I have been with progressive since 2000. I currently have 3 cars and my house insured with them. Up until a few months ago it was 4 cars.

Assuming that's not the sport? If it is, DAMN!

Yes, it is the G80 Sport. I can't complain about my rates at all.

Here's mine for 2019, New Jersey Manufacturers, been with them for 30+ years.
