If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can you turn the brake rotors on a 2015 5.0? My local shop tried it yesterday in conjunction w/ replacing the front pads...

Long story short - on 1st application the pedal was kicking back/pulsing like crazy! I returned it immediately. It was thought that it needed the electronic bleed via the ABS pump. Now they say I need rotors... I'm feeling a little ripped off at this point. Thoughts?

Replacing rotors is very common today. I don't know about yours specifically, but the last few brake jobs I had done required replacement. No one here can see your rotors to check condition either. Can't say for sure but now you know you have a good, not marginal brake job.

Well... The pulsing wasn't all that noticeable when I dropped it off. But they did say that they required 3-4 passes through the machine. The rotors are going to be replaced though. They're just charging me for the parts though, no additional labor.

My dealer had problems turning my front rotors, they ended up replacing both fronts and just charging me their cost on the rotors and comping the labor.

My Infiniti rotors never responded to turning unless it was done on a lathe mounted to the wheel hub. After paying for that once, I realized the costs of new rotors was less than the cost of the on car lathing...

It was pretty weird. Tons of kickback through the pedal, even with the lightest pressure. Almost felt like fully engaged ABS.

They would have felt horrible to require three passes to clean them up (unless there was a huge gouge or high spot). If they are pulsing worse than they were when you took it in, I'd say they screwed up. I'd be all over them to replace them. At least, they should replace the rotors for their cost.

Rock Auto's most expensive rotor for your car is $74, so beware. Online OEM is $116.

We just had my wife's 2017 MDX rotors turned on car and they are buttery smooth. Less than 18k miles. Acura must be using some junk parts to have rotors warp that soon.

The bad part about turning rotors is.. the more metal removed, the quicker they will start warping again.

Acura rotors = JUNK. Both my wife and I have/had Acura's and the rotors are horrible.

I'm never resurfacing rotors ever again...in my experience it's been a waste of money. Every. Single. Time.

I've had great results with High Performance Brake Pads and Brake Rotors - Frozen Rotors cryo-treated rotors. They're on the expensive side, but worth it.

That does sound strange. In my experience with a number of out of true rotors, it is almost always felt in the steering wheel or in the seat of the car if it is an issue with the rears. Pulsing in the pedal sounds something other than rotors, maybe they damaged or misaligned the ABS sensors??

Does anyone know the price difference between a) having pads and rotors replaced b) replacing pads and resurfacing the rotors
Depends on the shop, of course, but rotors are in the $75 to $100 range. Turning one will cost from $15 to $30.

The bigger question; should you turn the rotors? Taking too much off can ruin the rotor or make for unsafe braking. They are more prone to overheating. Some auto makers do not give a minimum spec because they think they should be replaced.

One way to look at it, the difference, assuming one or the other is needed is about $100. You bought a $50,000 car for the luxury and performance and safety if gives your family. Do you want less than the best brakes?

Before considering cryo treated rotors, do some research. Could be overkill for a luxury sedan. There's many options in rotors before spending twice the going rate.

They quoted just under $80 per. So that seems about right. To be honest, I've never had that much luck in having them turned on any car that I've ever owned...

Who knows? I've used this shop for years and they've always made it right in the end. And they are comping the labor.

Ask which brand then check prices against Rock Auto. Don't pay $80 and get a $25 rotor.

So true. I just wish I were mechanically inclined and replace my brakes and rotors myself.

Same as others here I've never tried to have rotors turned in the vehicles I've owned over the last 30 years....my go-to mechanic agrees saying that the labor cost involved versus the cost of new rotors is generally close to replacement cost or over.

I usually do them myself at a friend's house... But it's hot AF here in Houston right now & I wasn't sure if he had a floor jack that was up to lifting 4500 lbs of Genesis, as he mostly just deals with Miata's and the like...

Is it hard to Replace pads and rotors for the Genesis sedan? I have done it in a variety of vehicles and always found it straighforward. By the way, the brakes on my 2015 Genesis 5.0 are freaking awesome.

Standard brake job, nothing unique.
