Air-conditioning smell

Hi everybody I recently purchased a 2016 Hyundai Genesis. Very happy with it except for when you turn on the car the AC blows out foul smelling air. I read a blog from two years ago that some of you have had the same issue and you had it serviced but they did not resolve it. Would you know if they came up with a solution by now? Thanks

It is a potential problem with every car maker that has AC. Usually mold/mildew in the vents. You can buy sprays for it or you can DIY with other things. There are a few YouTube videos too.

The problem with air conditioner service is that they check the mechanical workings but do little or nothing with the vents. Be sure the drain is working properly also.

It's worth checking and/or changing the cabin air filter as well. If that's what reeks, that's a simple & cheap fix...

Thank you. I had changed the air and cabin filters but to no avail. Today I tried the Lysol in the air take fix. Hopefully that'll kill all the mold that's resting in the evaporator area.

I think that I'd do both in this case - Lysol to try to kill whatever's in there & then the above to get rid of the Scent de Swamp Ass...

It's a microbial growth build up on the cars evaporator. I used three cans of Lysol and blew every vent inside and out with zero success. Always turn your ac off a few km's before you reach your final destination, and run your vents on max fan speed to help dry the evaporator as much as possible; before shutting off the vehicle.
