  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This article appears today on cnnfn.com. Proves that Hyundai/Kia has something going on that their competitors can only dream about at the moment, sales growth in a flat or negative market. An interesting read including a comment or two about Hyundai's "luxury" car and branding.

That was interesting, thanks for the link.
My only quibble with it was the reliance on "industry experts" for much of the "analysis". Especially in the last few paragraphs when the focus is on what Hyundai should do.

Good read Moose...thanks for sharing.

Another article shows how Hyundai plans to increase market share. Automotive News reports that Hyundai will spend more to introduce the 2011 Sonata than any car in its history. It will spend about half of its entire advertising budget of $500 million on the Sonata and Tuscon. The article says that Hyundai spent about $80 million to introduce the Genesis and will spend twice that on the Sonata.

Nice article. The Sonata is a great car. The Genesis is a nice car as well. Hyundai has a lot to learn when it comes to dealer and customer service, but I give them tremendous credit for their progress.

I personally see them continuing as a strong contender with Honda and Toyota with their Sonata, Tucson, Genesis, etc. I don't see them making it as a "luxury" car manufacturer and think it's an enormous waste of resources for them to even try. There will undoubtedly be some who attain a value-oriented lease on a new Equus, but by and large, I don't suspect people will be lined up to get a $60k Hyundai.

Hard to believe Hyundai has improved so much in the last decade. Quite a feat for them, hope they keep it up.

"The company also has only one luxury vehicle, the Hyundai Genesis. By way of comparison, most other automakers have a full lineup of cars marketed under separate luxury brands.

Some experts say that Hyundai may need to come out with its own separate luxury brand if it is going to compete effectively in that higher-profit part of the market."

This is what I think too.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I always wondered why Hyundai called two different cars Genesis - one a sedan and the other a coupe. If I had to guess, I'd say Hyundai has already picked a name for an upscale brand, and its Genesis, it is just holding off on expanding its line and network until it has more product and dealers in place.

Hyundai isn't trying to be a "luxury" automaker (not when their bread and butter in the US are the Sonata, Elantra and Tuscon and in Europe - the i10, i20 and i30).

The Genesis and Equus are being sold as Hyundais on a temporary basis until conditions are right for Hyundai to launch a premium brand.

The Sonata looks nice!

Yes it does. Sort of has the side profile of a stretched Genesis Coupe and the rear profile of a mid-2000's Lexus ES. I like the integrated, flush to the bumper exhaust tips. Can't tell if it is dual or not in this picture. Interesting it is drawing comparisons to the VW CC, which draws comparison to a Mercedes. I guess you find a design that sells and tweak it just a tad to call your own!
