  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had issue with engine knock after car sits for 5+ days. History is other dealership never could solve why it was there one day and would not replicate.
Finally after weeks on end and video proof they got it to rattle like a tank. They say it is bad valve springs and costs more to repair than an engine replacement.
Bought car as certified pre-owned an extended warranty to 125k. Has 112k on engine. Babied engine with premium fuel for ever oil changes with synthetic every 5k miles.

Anyone have similar issues. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I believe thats one of the notorious problem for that year.

S is fact or fiction on 4.6 l 2012 V8 engine
Thanks all

I understood only the very early 2009 model year 4.6 had valve spring problem. I had a 2011 4.6 and no problems and put over 200,000 miles on it. The engine needs to have only OEM oil filters. Non oem oil filters were a known problem in the 4.6. and Hyundai sent out a TSB on using only original oil filters.

Thanks everyone for the info. Still awaiting response on warranty they want the dealer to drop the oil pan for shavings and photos of the valves to make a decision.

what kind of problem from the oil filter? I been going to take 5 and tread quarters, I never asked what they used, only did I changed it to wix this time around.

Translation?
What kind of problem did you get from a non-OEM oil filter? You never heard of Take 5 oil changes?

Edit: nvm, why did I even replied to you, stop being nosy.

Broken springs have little to do with oil filter selection. And the 2012 4.6 is NOT known for failing springs. That was a 2009 issue.

The OP says the car is covered by extended warranty, so that Warranty Co should pay the dealer to do whatever is best (a new engine isn't a bad thing!)
