G70 questions

New member here. I'm very intrigued at the G70 and I'm looking to replace my 2013 Honda Accord. My questions are when does Genesis normally announce their new model years? I'm assuming it will be very soon. I wanted to wait until official information comes out on the 2020 models so I can decide if its worth it to purchase the 2020 or possibly save some money on a 2019. I assume better deals will be had on the 2019's. I was also curious of peoples opinions on how well they think this car will hold up after say 5-6 years compared to say a Honda or Toyota. The warranty looks very good. Are most people trying to get the Circle A discount? Still haven't made a decision yet and I'll also be looking at the G70 competition, however no German cars for me.

The primary difference between the 2020 and the 2019 is supposed to be a power trunk. Search around the forums and you'll find some more info.

Are you looking at the 3.3t or the 2.0t? Very different set of competitors for the two engines, but I think you'll find the G70 to be competitive either way

As far as credentials go you can find that on line with reviews and you tube videos. As far as engine preference that’s strictly a personal choice. Whatever works best for you. Either configuration is a well-appointed capable sport sedan. As far as longevity I can tell you this is my 3rd Genesis and it’s no coincidence that I keep buying them. The last 2 I have been great cars no problems a couple of recall items which never caused any problems and maintenance.

There's not too much of a change between the '19s and '20s for the US/CA market, so if you want to save go with the '19. But there are some tiny differences that may or may not be important to you. Personally, I'm leasing my g70 and waiting to buy the sport version (hopefully in three years). I can't say enough good things about the car, I also drove a '15 accord hybrid and the two just don't compare. You're gonna love this car. In my opinion the reliability will be there even 5-6 yrs down the line, though there are no guarantees for any vehicle. I've only had mine for almost four months, but no issues to report. If you're not looking at the German cars, then this is the best choice hands down. I looked at the IS and the Q50S, they both fall short in places. The G70 is just an overall strong effort, minus the infotainment (but if you have an iphone or android, its better to just use the carplay/auto apps anyways).

BTW the sound system doesn't get mentioned often in the reviews. IMO it's amazing, but I'll leave that for your own ears to decide.

Thanks for all of your comments. I'm undecided on the engine. I already have a 2016 Corvette Z06 so I already have a car with plenty of power but its not my daily driver. I'm planning retirement within 3 years and my daily commute isn't that far so gas mileage isn't my primary concern. I want to have a fun car to drive. I'm also looking at the Lexus ES, and Kia Cadenza so I'm all over the place until start looking closer. I'm ready to buy now but wanted to wait until the 2020 models came out. What is everyone's opinions of the base G80 with the non-turbo engine? It looks like more of a luxury car than the G70 but I do really like the looks of the G70. BTW Kikaniparth, the stereo is very important to me so than you for that information.

I'm planning retirement within 3 years and my daily commute isn't that far so gas mileage isn't my primary concern. I want to have a fun car to drive. Feels/drives like a boat. I wouldn't consider it a great candidate for a "fun car to drive," but then again, you do have a vette for that

Agree with that, it is more a highway cruiser and has plenty of room. You will commute in comfort. Even the base has Smart Cruise Control to make the drive easier. If luggage and back seat room are important the G80 is the way to go. The 3.8 is adequate for normal driving too.

Haven't driven the g80 so can't give an opinion on that, however I do use the g70 for my daily commute and even a few road trips. It's really fun to drive, it doesn't have the sheer power of a vette, but it feels light and eager to go fast in sport mode. 0-60 in 4.7 isn't a slouch. Comfort and eco are both much more comfy and easier on the throttle, and I usually switch between the three modes on every drive.

And I assure you, these speakers are worth it!

Thanks for everyone's input. I went to a Genesis dealer last night with a couple of my family members (Not really car enthusiast) and looked at both the G70 and G80. We all liked the interior of the G80 better and they seemed to think the G80 was the best choice for me. I really want to spend much more time with both cars though because I still like the G70 interior and I feel the size of the car might be a better fit for me. rarely do I have the need for rear seat passengers. Unfortunately this dealer sucks. Its unfortunate that the Sacramento area has 3 Genesis dealers and all are rated very poorly in both reviews and in this forum. I was definitely impressed by the quality of the interiors of these cars!

Take your time and make the best decision for you! However, if you're looking at the g80, I suggest you wait for the 2020 model as it seems to have gotten a face lift! The g70 won't be updated until 2021/22 i think

I did see a post on the possible changes for the 2020 G70. Has anything been leaked yet for the changes to the 2020 G80? BTW the G80 I looked at had the Sports package. One thing I am concerned about though is getting these cars in the right color/package I want. This dealer seemed to only have 3-4 colors of the cars. It looks like if I purchase the Genesis I would have to be willing to travel to get what I want. This isn't really a big deal for me though.

The photo I attached is a render of the new model, the new model should look similar to this. Look at the 2020 g90 for reference. I understand wanting the right car for you, I was lucky enough that my dealership was willing to work with me to get the car I wanted. Hopefully genesis can finally start getting their own dealerships soon and we won't have to worry about that

I think I heard good things about Genesis of Santa Rosa or another somewhere in the area between there and SF. Might be worth a shot/drive
