  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recommended 1st oil change and service

... I never had to do one because owner changed oil to frequently.
I don't doubt that frequent oil changes can't hurt, but is some instances, it may be wasteful. IMO, there is so much going on within the auto enthusiast community that is believed to be helpful, but without any real scientific proof. Most of the evidence is anecdotal and not rigorously proven fact.

OK, if they are using full synthetic, then I really don't understand the reason for such frequent oil changes. However, it could be that with the big 3.3T engine, these cars are going to be hard driven and may need earlier oil changes???
Im on the severe schedule according to my SA which is changes around 3k miles (desert environment). I asked for full synthetic to see if we could push my changes further out to around 6k miles. He said no way. His reasoning is that the turbos are so small on this car that it isnt worth the risk of pushing the changes to 6k miles. I dont mind this logic, because of my valet perk and because Im not paying for the changes. However when my free changes are up (in 3 years I think?) Ill be moving to full synthetic and changing every 4-5k on my own. Genesis is being extra careful to try and support that 10 year warranty I think

Just curious, did he explain why small turbos would need more frequent changes? Is he thinking they run hotter and can shear the oil viscosity sooner? I would think that would be a function of boost pressure and size.

Just a guess, because I didn’t push the issue, is that he has experience with the 3.3 on other cars in this desert environment and knows they need more frequent changes to keep them healthy. Or...regardless of oil type I qualify for severe schedule and to ensure my ass is covered if something fails, I need to be on the up and up on my changes

I would agree with you about being on the up-and-up as far as oil changes you're not damaging anything by doing it sooner

If you want to be really nuts you can do oil sample.Do one at 2000 then at 3000 and at 4000. You will see the counts on different metals as the miles go up. It is actually pretty neat to see how it happens. I did it once on my 2001GMC8.1liter.

My thoughts are that you cant change it to often. If you plan on keeping car do it every 4000. People tell me that I waste my money by changing my oil to often, I like to keep my engine clean inside. Cant go wrong.
