  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
Recently scored a 2015 5.0 with only 31K miles. I am very happy with the car. I got extended warranty as well.

I got the map update from Hyundai which added apple car play to the radio unit. The car had the factory version. My question is that is there any other software update that dealer can make? Software update for the safety features etc?

Thanks,

Yeah I don't have ultimate. I believe car play upgrade only possible with touch screen radios and 15/16 year Ultimate version did not come with a touchscreen.

I do have touch screen, I was told the ultimate has different operating system. I suppose that is why they were able to upgrade your system.

When you said they upgraded yours I got excited thinking that I could get the same upgrades. How are your front tires wearing for you? The outside of my front tires are chopping some, dealer tells me that that is normal.

Just to be clear, dealer did not upgrade mine, I did it myself. You basically go to following website and purchase map update v13.5 which comes with apple play and android car play. It was $140. Then you just update the SD card that your radio has. It was quite easy.

What I am wondering is that if the dealer can make additional updates beyond the radio such as updates to safety features, adaptive CC etc.

8" touch screen no jog dial on the console = upgrade to carplay

9.2" screen with jog dial on console = no upgrade to carplay

So going back to my original question, is there any additional software upgrade that the dealer can provide besides the radio upgrade which I already did?

only if it is required to fix an issue with the vehicle that has the exact symptoms the software flash would resolve.

vehicle ECUs are not like windows updates. It is a closed system, so updates are only done to address specific known problems where the symptoms are present.

your radio/gps headunit is the only open system that requires updates to the GPS map and POI data, sometimes, not all those updates include firmware that adds features or corrects known issues in the routing, programming, and appearance.

I was thinking about upgrading my NAV software - It gives me no option to download, only to buy the SD card for $175.

Which model do you have, the 5.0?

Odd, I just checked and you are absolutely correct Sir. There is no download option and defaults to making you purchase the SD card too, for the Jog Dial only. I checked the Touch Only and there it allows the download option. It does state: "V13.5 North America Map Update for Genesis(JogDial/Premium) - 135SP2DH. 32G SD is required." But I thought we already had a 32GB SD Card?

I think they just offer it as a convenience if you don't want to use your existing card. Or for people that will try to put it on the 8 gig card along with the photos of the dog.

I also tried to get the upgrade and it would not let me do it without purchasing the SD card

Which brings me to a question: Is the Jukebox located on the SD Card? Mine shows approx. 26GB available which is why I believe I have a 32GB Card already? My original thought was to download this update and clone my existing card to a 128 or 256GB to expand the in-car storage - has anyone tried this or am I barking up a tree?

I thought the juke box was a drive in the radio. It also spools the (first six) SiriusXM station you are listening to so you can rewind it.

You're probably right Ed, I was simply assuming based on what I had seen as far as available space. The Jukebox could very well be a flash chip built into the system somewhere on the board or elsewhere. I had hoped it was on the SD giving us the option to expand, but oh well to that thought.

And I did not know about the XM rewind feature...interesting.
