Oddly, including the front cruise radar which I doubt will work properly now.
As long as the paint isn't metallic in nature or is trapping moisture against the plastic, the radar won't know the difference. You'd probably need to build up a quarter inch of paint to have an issue of any kind.
He should have sanded and painted the bottom where he's run it up on the curb so much
How do you know this? Have you tried it yourself? If so, then I may wrap my sensor and grill as well. I do not want spend good money to wrap the sensor and then get an error message based off speculative information. As long as the paint isn't metallic in nature or is trapping moisture against the plastic, the radar won't know the difference. True, the sensor is located behind the shield plate on the grill, however I am not certain about covering the sensor shield plate with vinyl.haven't tested. Just know the properties of millimeter-wave RF at 77Ghz. Short of water or metallics, you’re not going to alter or attenuate it to an unresolvable degree. Plastics and similar RF transparent materials such as Latex won’t matter much, up to a certain combined density.
if you want to test on the cheap use a dozen layers of Saran Wrap. Just don’t trap water in between layers or you’ll significantly increase sensitivity to rainfall.
Also, the plastic plate is not the sensor. It’s just a debris guard to prevent objects from impacting the transceiver array mounted behind.
The previous owner of my 2015 5.0 had the grill blacked out with vinyl shrink wrap. Looks fantastic but hard to fix it where stones have chipped it....
