  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

front proximity warning acting weird

Now that I know where the proximity sensor switch is, I note that if I turn it on as I enter the garage usually, but not always, the front proximity warning works without having to go into reverse..

Still don't understand this system. As stated above it seems to be for parking only and they assume you put the car in reverse start to park which will activate the system. It seems like the front proximity warnings automatically shut off as you drive. Does this make any sense to anyone and why would they do this?

Yes, they are for parking only. They shut off as you drive so you don't get false reading from stray RF signals or a car in the next lane.

You should not have to turn the switch on as you enter the garage. If it is in the ON position they should come on every time below the threshold speed. If the switch is on, they should work every time. Mine do every time. If I pull into a parking spot they will go off from another car in the spot in front or the curb or stop if there is one. I back into the garage so it always works in reverse.
From the manual:
Operating condition
- When the Engine Start/Stop button
is in the ON position
- When the shift lever is in D or R
position
- When the vehicle speed is not over
6 mph (10 km/h)
Push the parking assist system button
to the ON position to operate the
parking assist system. The indicator
in the button turns on.
To cancel the system, push the button
again. The indicator in the button
turns off.
• The system will operate automatically
every time the vehicle speed
is below 6 mph (10 km/h) with the
system switched on.

• When you move the shift lever to R
position with the system switched
off, the indicator in the button will
turn on and the system will operate
automatically regardless of button
status. However, if the vehicle
speed exceeds 12 mph (20 km/h)
when driving forward, the indicator
in the button will turn off. The system
will not automatically operate
again even if vehicle speed returns
to 6 mph (10 km/h).
To turn on the system, press the
parking assist system button.
• When more than two objects are
sensed at the same time, the closest
one will be recognized first.

now that I know where the sensor button is, I find that by pressing it on or off while entering the garage the front sensors will SOMETIMES work. still makes no sense

My 2019 G70 3.3T AWD does something even more strange. When parking, it works just fine. Sensors chime as normal. But. When I drive and I am in traffic, I can be sitting there, not moving at all (safe distance, able to see the car's tires in front of me) and my sensors occasionally just turn on and chime for no reason. I'm pretty sure there's a little software/firmware gremlin in there somewhere.

There are many comments about this happening. Nothing happens for no reason. Ford, Tesla, Mini, and others are on the same frequency and if you get close to them yours will go off. Next time look at who is in front of you and chances are you will see the sensors on their bumper. A few times it was from some other stray signal.
