Average mpg in city

What’s the fastest you’ve gone in your car and how did it feel at those speeds?
I’ve been to 125 in my old crown vic and it was not very stable. I’ve had my 5.0 to 105 and it felt great.

Same here, 105 on the Interstate a few weeks ago and she was pretty smooth.

138 mph for me and the Genny. It handled well and was nice and stable. But I have a bent rim or a bad tire , feels like a tire out of balance. Had them balanced twice by 2 different shops,so thinking maybe a rimm . I am going to address problem this weekend. 138mph and still had way more to go . It's kind of scary how the v8 pulls at top end

My 2015 genesis has been given me a low reading average 13.5 -16.8mpg in the city is this right? I like to drive with a little acceleration here n there, but dang that seemed awful low to me. I had some repairs due to it and if i remember correctly i would average 18-22 in the city and 23-26 hwy. also my total full tank capacity dropped after i got my car back too. Every time i fill up i get around 430 miles but before repairs i would get around 500. Post your averages and opinions. Thank you in advance!

I average 16ish city driving with the sport 3.3T. 22ish mpg highway only driving.

I switched jobs several months ago, my previous was 31 miles each way all highway except the 1 mile from my house to highway, (company was literally across the intersection of the off ramp).

new job is 14 miles each way, but only 8 of it is highway, the company is located 6 miles from the nearest offramp and the traffic from the offramp to the office is horrible, goes right past a University and sometimes I sit at the same light 4-5 times.

My old commute was against the flow, so it took me 35-40 minutes to go 31 miles, now it takes me 45-60 miles to go 14 miles.

I went from an overall life average of 21.7mpg down to 16.3 on the dash computer readout.

doing manual calculations per tank I was >22 at old job, and am hovering around 16-17 now. dropped from 375 miles to a tank to around 280.

Sounds about right. Did you really get an actual 500 miles? I've been driving 2 different versions of that car for 5 years and never came close to that. Good highway would get me close to 400 miles.

City driving mileage sucks, but you have a big heavy car to get moving and it takes a lot of energy.

Following up on this, the comparisons are interesting but there are also differences in where we drive and what we call "city" driving. When I got in the car this morning I looked at the accumulated figures and in 150 miles I averaged 19.5 mpg. That had one 15 mile stretch of highway, all the rest was short trips, some only a mile or two.

This morning I took a 30 mile round trip. It did not have any highway miles at all, but most was on two lane, occasional traffic lights, not much traffic. Speed was an easy 40 to 50 for much of the time. I averaged 23.4 mpg according to the computer. While not highway miles, it is not true city either. Maybe you can call it casual country. Of course highway driving is not so good if you are on the Cross Bronx or DC beltway at 8 AM. Technically a highway but moving 5 mph.

Interesting dynamic. Less miles driven, takes longer, worse mpg and harder drive, and tougher on the car from a maintenance perspective.
I hope the new job pays more, lol.

Yep, that 19.5 mimics what I'm seeing and mostly just running around St Pete, and yes it's city driving but flows for the most part.

40% more than the previous

So many variables in figuring out the mpg. Out in SD here I drive 65mph or more wherever I go. Never sit at lights or stop signs. When I go to the Dealer in Sioux Falls the mileage drops 5 points just going ten minutes into town of the interstate. Either way the Genesis is a AWESOME Car that I would drive even if I got 12mpg!

I'm averaging around 14mpg city. But then again I don't hold back between stops.
Sounds about right for my traffic situ. On the way to work (less traffic) I get about 17-18. On the way back (OMFG! lots of idling) about 14-15. On a recent road trip through Texas backroads I got 25 while doing between 70-85.

Actually, my old G35 w/ 3.5 V6 got about the same mileage, so getting that with a 5.0 in a larger, more powerful car doesn't give me a lot to complain about!

My thoughts exactly. This car is a nice solid ride. Just updated my nav . Loving this car!!! More and more!

Yeah, if it wasn't governor limited, I bet she could do 160!

Unfortunately I feel quite bummed out that a 6.2L v8 in a Camaro is faster AND gets 36mpg on the highway.

the Camaro has cylinder deactivation, so on the highway cruising is it only operating on 4 cylinders.

better MPG yeah, but also a much higher cost of maintenance and a much more complicated motor.

I've owned several cars with this "feature" from GM and Chrysler and I can't stand it. it can be tuned out, and when it is your 36mpg becomes about 22-24mpg

I just tuned it out on a rental 2019 2SS and it was still averaging 27mpg.

Granted the non-highway mileage tanked because it became a lead foot delight

But is it much faster? My 5.0 feels really fast in a straight line. And camaros are heavy too.

I have seen about 110... The loudest thing I heard was the wife! ;)

Funny how this thread was about MPG and was taken over by triple digit speeds... So question for you all. I was coming back from "Mexico" last month and a Challenger was roudy (R/T - 375 hp, 2012ish). He pulled up and gave me a thumbs up. I wasn't going to race having a 3.8 AWD. But, we were cruising around 85 mph and I thought "what the heck". He was in front by a length in the left lane when I gave her h*ll. The Challenger punched it soon after. The Genesis fared well. I had to get in the left lane as well since we were moving along pretty well. He was not gaining any ground on me. Sure, they are both boats. Much weight, little go. That's the back story...

As soon as I hit 112mph, it cut out. Does the 3.8 AWD or 3.8 in general have a governor? This was new to me and rather surprising. It hit the fuel cut pretty hard LOL

**I do not condone street racing** But fun? I support fun, in a safe capacity.
