  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Local dealers do not have a G70. I'm working with a couple an hour or two away that seem willing to negotiate and get what I want. They want me to sign a lease so they can retrieve the car. So in other words I will sign a lease days or a week or two before I get the car. Is that normal?

Depends on the dealer. They want a serious commitment before they bring in a car. Did you have a test drive somewhere? If you are confident that is the car you want, no big deal. If unsure and possibly going to back out, I can understand their reluctance.

Thanks!

I considered the long distance lease option and that dealer said if they delivered the car and I declined, the deal was moot. That is what he said, if you can believe what car salesmen say. I eventually went with a local dealer. There is a right of rescission in most (all?) states to cancel a deal within three days for any or no reason. I assume this applies to the transaction discussed here.

I'm in CA and I don't believe there is a 'right of rescission'. Most if not all finance offices have the no cooling off period sign. Thanks for the info!

Good point, but when do the three days start? The dealer can take four days to deliver.

AFAIK lease contracts are final without any "cooling period", there is no right to rescind your contract.

From Edmunds:
For new cars, your legal rights can be summed up in the one sentence that's posted on the wall of many dealership sales offices: "There is no cooling-off period."
The Federal 'Cooling-Off Rule'
You might have heard there is a federal cooling-off rule for some purchases. There is such a rule, but it is primarily meant to protect consumers from high-pressure door-to-door sales tactics. It explicitly doesn't apply to automobiles. If you signed the sales contract, you own the car. And the law is on the side of the seller.
