  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Head Unit To Get Replaced

Can we buy the extended warranty after already having purchased the car? How much is it?
You can purchase the Hyundai HPP Platinum Extended Warranty (the one you want) at any Hyundai dealer, including on the phone, email, or internet. There are threads that discuss dealers who will make you a good deal. A good price for the first generation (G1) Genesis extended warranties was about $1300, but not sure how much the G2's will cost.

Expect your dealer to initially quote you a ridiculous amount, and make several offers below that, but probably not as good as you can get elsewhere.

While I've got everyone's attention, how do you release the electronic parking brake if the battery goes dead? I tried to pull the Genesis out of my garage this evening to do some cleaning and it won't start & everything's dead. I'm fairly sure it's related to my head unit problem, obviously. The owner's manual is quite useless in that it says to load the car up on a flat hauler and bring it to the dealership to have it inspected.

Questions for Nickgen or anyone who has had their head unit replaced.

  1. Did the dealer take care of updating your Sirius XM subscription information, or did you have to call XM to inform them of the new radio id?
  2. Did the new radio come with newer firmare, and/or updated MAP software?

My radio got swapped on Friday, and I'll be picking up the car as soon as they get the door weather strip, and install that.

Dealer (Brad Benson in NJ = AVOID AT ALL COSTS) )screwed up the Sirius and I had to call Sirius myself to give them the new radio ID. It took a while as first they said the dealer had to call, but I was persistent and they ultimately did it without the stupid dealer. I don't recall if the firmware or maps were updated versions - I might have screen shots on my old phone and will check when I get a chance.

The dealer tried to update my Sirius subscription. But, because I had an unusual subscription issue, I had to handle it myself. They apologized.

Tried recharging the battery, but it's in the trunk...which I can't open. Read through the owner's manual, nothing. Called the dealership. 90 minutes later no call back. Called roadside assistance, a truck showed up about 15 minutes later. Evidently you can use the mechanical key in the fob to open the trunk. Sweet...would have been nice if the manual had mentioned this. Got a jump, got the car running. Waiting for a call back from the dealership to see what they want me to do next.

I see you have/(had) and Ultimate with the DIS system. What issues did you have with the unit, and did the swap resolve the issue?

Mine is an AVN 4.5 unit. (Signature Package)

Be aware that when you call Sirius/XM to give them your new radio ID, they will also charge you a reconnect fee. I've done this twice. My dealer gave me free oil changes to compensate, which more than offset the reconnect fees.

That's one of the reasons why they said the dealer needed to call - but I persisted and they deleted the old ID, added the new ID and waived the fee. It was an argument that required a few redirections, but the last agent took care of it.

1st swap was because it "forgot" its Sirius subscription everytime the car was shut off. The new head unit fixed that issue, but added extra, useless guidelines to the backup camera and lost the look down over the bumper view. The second swap involved more than just the head unit ;) and so far, so good!

Ahhh... the head unit and the stuff it was connected to! ;)

I was not charged a reconnect fee since it was a warranty replacement. Sirius just needed documentation of the warranty swap.

They forgot to transfer the data when they transfered the subscription. it required a second phone call.

I'll pay the reconnect fee, and get a free oil change in compensation, any day of the week.

Still waiting on a head unit. The one that was supposedly ordered was in fact not ordered, and now they're on back-order. This is getting old.

You don't jump it from the trunk. There are posts accessible under the hood, capped and marked with polarity. Tow truck guy should have known this as it is SOP for almost any car with a battery mounted other than under the hood.

I had mine replaced for this too - about a month into ownership. Fixed and no problems since.

Sorry if I didn't mention this before, but the way the car was parked in my garage, the hood and the jump post (s) were inaccessible without 8-foot-long arms. I would have jumped started it myself if it hadn't been for this.

Ah. Duly noted. :) I bet you back it in now, don't you? :)

Then I can't open the driver's door to get out! Guess I have a choice to make!! Ah the 1st-world problems of owning a brand-new car with some technological glitches.

The head unit on my 2015 Genesis Ultimate, at 46K, now won't boot, just loops the banner screen. Like most of you I've done exhaustive research and ran through checklists; button reset, sd-card pull, power-button hold, fuse pulls, battery disconnects. Given the documented number of similar incidents, 3 year only warranty, and COGS for this item, I sent a succinct letter via registered mail to the US COO. Suffice I had higher expectations for Genesis. Requested just a one sentence pov reply (honesty not deflection). If there's a response I'll post it.
