  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

YES your Genesis can SELF DRIVE!!!

Given the reliability of LKAS I'd not trust it anyway. Sometimes it is fantastic, other times it allows me to drift off.
Australia though, does have a couple of cross country roads where you probably could sleep a couple of hours in any car that tracks straight.

I've not had any real issue with LKAS, but it isn't designed as an auto drive, it is designed to pull you back when you drift. so it doesn't work hands off very well.

I only really care about the adaptive cruise especially in stop and go traffic, it has made my commute to work a lot less stressful, when traffic is flowing I drive. in stop and go I like the ACC, I just wish it would actually stop and go, not stop and time out after 3 seconds.

I can’t believe it would be cost effective, you would need the camera, all the wiring, the computers, steering modules, new hud and dash cluster with the added features, if I had to guess $5000-$8000 USD not counting labor.
Thanks for that. I did have that thought and wasn't sure what was involved. I would be interested in having a look as a theoretical exercisem, where would I start?

I believe the Australian models do have the adaptive cruise. I just feel really ripped off that it wasn't offered to us :). We have LKAS in one of our other cars and it is of miniumal value but we tend to travel long distances from my home to get anywhere and so I find it a nice to have feature. Not sure if it's a $10,000 nice to have feature but from a systems perspective I'd love to know what parts/modules are involved in making LKAS work. Beyond an LKAS dedicated module I wonder how much different tech is involved from the LDW stuff?

i love driving, the world is just getting lazy. lol

Additionally, you only get one life. Would really you trust Elon Musk with yours?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Having driven teslas with auto-pilot, I have 99% trust in this system to self-drive on the highway or in traffic jams. City driving - not so much, but the city is one place where I would want to drive myself.

Now it's only an issue of getting my hands on a '15 genny.

Hello, I'm one of the developers on HKG (Hyundai KIA Genesis) for HKMC over on the Comma.ai Server.
I just saw someone joined our server and posted this link so I thought I'd chime in.

To clarify, the labs boys at Hyundai MOBiS / Mando generally put the same firmware on all the MDPS for a line of vehicle models. This means if the highest trim or country variant of the vehicle has LKAS / SPAS / VSM the MDPS would be ready to accept the appropriate requests even on a lower trim, since, it's the same MDPS. Even for LDWS vehicles.

What we do is intercept the vehicles MFC camera unit and repackage the message going out to the vehicle. This way we can send our own request for steering torque. Unfortunately it also means we have the same restrictions meant for the request message. For example with older Genesis there is no reason for the MDPS to accept the request below 38mph so it doesn't. However newer Genesis MDPS firmware are provisioned for LFA (Lane Follow Assist) and LFA uses the same request message as LKAS. Therefore those newer vehicles will accept the request down to 0.

We also have developments to intercept the CAN going to MDPS to make it think we're going faster rather than slower so that we can use the request down to 0 mph. Although we may also just use the VSM request since we can control what the MDPS sees. Either way this will be difficult for you Genesis folks since the MDPS connector for the ECU is litterally at the bottom of the vehicle. Crazy.

I see there is a concern with the lane line detection?

We don't use the OEM camera for that. We use the Ai model that is much better.

You guys can join and install this into your vehicle if your vehicle has LKAS. Install is pretty simple but for now your steering will be limited based on your vehicle age. Older Genesis = 38mph Limit. Newer ones = Steering down to 0.

We also made it so that when the EON is unplugged from your vehicle the smaller Panda unit that stays in your vehicle forwards everything stock so you don't have to mess with wires when you take it in for service for example. We also made this stock mode remove the stock vehicle LKAS requirement to keep your hands on the steering wheel in stock mode like in this Ad from Hyundai:

A video on installation would make this far more easier. If anyone has it, upload it LOL it'd be a great addition and I rarely dig into a car's electronics because of the headache. However, this is quite promising and would like to give it a go.

agreed. and a premade panda or whatever for those not technically inclined.

Are there any plans on a new Eon unit? It's based on a pretty old phone that's starting to be hard to find so I'm afraid if I buy an Eon, I may not be able to buy another one if it fails a year or two down the line.

Has anyone else from the forum installed one (comma.ai system)

I just installed it earlier today. Works great. I took it for a 60km test drive and I barely had to touch the wheel, I still have some install issues to work out but I'm happy with it so far.

Has anyone thought of liability coverage in an accident? I think many of the autonomous issues become some oddball off normal scenario that resultsnin collisions. Like EdP, I live in the highly litigious state of Florida. Where does using this system put me from an insurance stsndpoint?

In one hour of TV I counted 9 lawyer ads from 6 different law firms. You know they are going to look for the deep pockets. I'd think you'd be charged with negligence of it was active at the time of the crash. States are enacting or at least discussing how to cope with the technology. The person engaging the system is the operator of the vehicle and liable for its operation.

Given the ability of the LKAS to keep you on the road I don't know that I'd ever trust an add on using that as the base. Perhaps this system improves it. I have no idea. I'd be more on edge watching it that just driving myself.

Ultimately, you're still in command of the vehicle. You still have to be alert to the situation around you like you normally would. You can take over at any point by taking the wheel and touching the pedals disengages the system. This is still a level 2 autonomous vehicle, it's basically the next level of cruise control.

It's not until level 3 autonomy or above that you have to rewrite laws because level 3 doesn't require you to watch the road. Level 4 would allow you to take a nap and level 5 no longer has human controls.

Can anyone build me the harness and I’ll pay you for the parts/labor? Trying to make this easy and painless for myself!

I've had open pilot on my car for almost a year now. It has gotten so much better from last year. They added auto lane change which checks your blind spot monitor and then changes lanes. It is super easy to install and build the harness but if you want to wait Comma announced recently they are going to be building giraffes for HKG cars. The eon 2 had the panda already build in so it is much cleaner than before.
