  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sometimes I get somewhere and want to sit in my car and listen to the end of a song/podcast and I don’t want to keep my engine running unnecessarily. Unfortunately, within a minute or so of turning off the ignition, I get an alert on the screen that I could be discharging the battery and that I need to run the engine. If I ignore it, the stereo turns itself off after another minute or so.

how do I stop it from doing this? It’s pretty irritating. I have a hard time believing that me listening to the radio or other audio for 5-10 minutes with the ignition off is going to cause a problem with the battery.

Yes, annoying but no known way to stop it. Car radios can go a very long time and not kill the battery.

What if you kill the ignition and then turn on accessory mode or whatever it’s called. Does that still generate the warning?

I think that if you use the radio when car isn't actually running, you will always get the message alert.

That’s pretty irritating 😠

well for FWIW, in my G80 30 minutes is the max running the radio in ACC before the car won't start... been there, done that twice.

Is there anything like VAGCOM but for Hyundai vehicles that could eliminate this?

Seriously, how many times a day/week/month do you sit in your car (parked) listening to your radio that you would need to invest in something to stop this warning?

Ignore the warning, just keep it on Accessory or ON. I do this sometimes while cleaning the car, listen to the radio. I didn't think it turned itself off at all, other than when you turn off the engine (without touching anything else) you have like a 60 second window or door opening before the music stops. Something along those lines.

Every morning when I get to the park and ride I have about five minutes of time (depending on traffic, etc) before my bus arrives and I would like to shut off my engine and just listen to the radio. So, just about every weekday. Plus random other times where I get somewhere and have a few minutes to kill.

Does your phone have the built in FM radio option? You can also listen to thousands of radio stations for free on iHeartRadio or similar apps. Probably your best option here.

You mean like unplug my phone from CarPlay and then listen to the audio through the phone speakers or plug in headphones? When I have a vehicle that has a great stereo that I am currently sitting in? You’re kidding right? :p

i guess I’ll just keep the engine running for the extra 3-4 minutes it would otherwise be off. Sorry, polar bears.

I'm sure you can turn the engine off, turn the accessory ON or car ON (engine still off) and listen to music without it turning itself off. Yes you'll have the warning but who cares, ignore it, it goes away and carry on.

Agree with what you are saying above, like hell I would turn my car sound system off and listen to music through my shitty little phone speaker.

Yep, you have two options...keep engine running, or plug in a pair of headphones and listen on your phone. Luckily my phone has an amazing sound system built in (Quad DAC) so if I had to shut car off, I'd be totally set.

Ok, so if I turn off the ignition, then turn on the accessory function, I will get the warning, but it won’t turn off the radio after that?

i can live with that. I was thinking it would just keep shutting off the radio after like two minutes no matter what.

You can turn the warning off. It's in one of the menus somewhere.

Should work exactly like that. Radio is one of the #1 functions and point of having that "Accessory" option at all. If there are any Drive-In movie theaters left in North America that play through the radio "Accessory" is how you would do so as well. I've been listening to music with the car/truck/jeep off on accessory on every single vehicle I've owned, no issues. One of the greatest things is waxing the car with the windows down and music playing. (steps down off of soap box... .lol)
