  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello fellow G70 owners. Am I the only who’s experiencing the 2 attempt trunk close? For some reason the trunk never shuts on the first attempt, unless I slam it, but I shouldn’t have to do that. Also does anyone know of a website a can visit to view and purchase the 5 spoke 19 in wheels on the Sport models?

Welcome!! Ya you have to pull the truck down hard for it to shut. Usually takes me a couple tries as well if I am shutting it by the handle inside. Enjoy your new G70!

Thanks@G70girl! I’d shrugged it off at first when it was happening, but now it’s kinda annoying, especially since there’s no known reason for it to do it.

The trunk closing thing is crazy. Didn't anyone try it during the development phase and realize it didn't work very well? If you're going to bother putting some sort of handle in, you might as well make it work.

Takes me 2 attempts every time. I think the Aluminum trunk lid flexes. Push right over the latch and not off to the side.

I had the exact same issue with my Alfa though.

Im having trouble understanding your issue. Are you saying that the trunk is not latching when you close it? or are you unhappy with the amount of resistance when you push it closed? Is something not working right?

I assumed it was the overly strong springs he's unhappy with. Gotta hit the gym harder @ OP!

My method is to either swing hard using the handle inside or just grab the top of the trunk lid and close it slowly. Sometimes it's a 2 step process, but it never fails to latch

same....it acts like every non automated trunk Ive ever owned

I assumed it was the fact that trying to close the trunk lid using the inside hand grab often fails unless you really put some effort into it. I don't find the springs overly stiff, it's just that the angle or position of the inside hand grab is off. In contrast, a similar feature on the inside of my 3 series trunk lid worked easily every time.
If you close the trunk by simply pushing it down on the outside, then no issue at all (other than worrying about potentially scratching the finish if the car is dirty).

This is an insane thread...and already talked about.

The trunk closes JUST FINE using the inner grab handle. Use some friggin muscle. My wife can do it every time as well.

If you seriously cannot close the trunk with one attempt (also without smashing the shit out of it)...you have some serious strength issues and I suggest lifting weights. If the short S.Koreans (no offence...just facts) can do it it without wining about it...pretty sure NA peeps can (male and female).

If this is really an issue...and you haven't bought yet...get a 2020 that has self close.

It's actually awkward to use the inner grab handle.
A plastic deck lid spoiler would solve this issue!

Why does this response from you not surprise me. 🙄

It's true that Koreans of previous generations are shorter in stature due to the hardships they faced and due to poor nutritional intake growing up in poverty, but younger generations growing up these days are much taller than the average Asian as they are pampered like hell. I was born in Korea and I was around average height in my high school class being 5'10 in the late 90s.

Back to the topic, yes it takes 2 tries for me as well even when I think I put enough force. The latch doesn't really hook at the first attempt for some reason.

Well now this is different, and sounds like a true issue. Once mine hits the latch, it’s closed and secure on the first time every time

Oh yeah...for sure. If this is a latch issue...vs...not enough umph :: that is a whole other issue.

For those that are having this closing issue...they should test closing the trunk traditionally (with some umph). Put your hand on the top back of the trunk lid and close it solidly. If it closes...not a latch issue. If it hits the bottom and doesn't catch...we know what's up.

If it's a latching issue...perhaps the trunk release mechanism is not letting go? The first slam releases the cable...and the 2nd attempt actually allows it to close?

Not to drag this out, because the trunk closing "issue" I was addressing is certainly not a big deal. I only chimed in because someone else had brought it up. But for the record, the first time my 30 year old, 6' 4", 210lb weight lifting son went to close my trunk lid using the inside handle, it didn't work because the lid often doesn't come down all the way. Sorry Beefer, I'm not buying the "eat your freaking Wheaties" answer. It takes a little more finesse and effort than the average person expects it to, especially if they've owned other brands of car with this inside handle. In this case, it's not a latch problem, just a "geometry" problem. But no big deal.

Which may be true...but the point is...practice a few times and you've got it nailed. You cannot close your trunk 2 or 3 times and complain. Each car is different obviously. If you consistently cannot close it...then it's either a latch issue or you need new arms.

I too had to adjust the first few times. No big deal. I even commented on using the elbow technique...LOL. I would close it and if it didn't shut I would quickly catch it with my elbow and close it. No finger prints...no scratches. That was like the first 3-4 times. I have since closed the trunk on the first try probably over a 100 times.

Inside handle? As in Inside the trunk? How do you avoid smashing your hand with the trunk lid?
