  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G90 2018 transmission issues.

When I had my 2018 g90 5.0 in this week I advised it does not always start. They checked everything and battery - all is OK. Today, again, start, all the lights come on, wait, the engine does not start. I am winning the lottery twice.

Riley - I disagree with you. If you have a v8 between the years of 2017 and 2018 - (don't know about 2019). I believe there is a greater than 85% chance the coolant will leak and the car will overheat due to faulty o rings. It's just a matter of time, mine took 10 months. I would love for you to prove me wrong so all the owners out there don't have to carry coolant and a funnel.

I have a 2018 G90 with 11000 miles and fortunately, I found coolant on my garage floor. Took the car in on Friday and SM called today to tell me that the one O ring in the country to fix the car won't be here until Tuesday.

I feel lucky in that I just finished a 2500 mile road trip in the car on some pretty desolate roads and the car didn't decide to overheat then.

I feel lucky too because I got my o-ring replaced 3 months ago (see my earlier post in this thread). I'm about to start a 5000+ miles round-trip to Death Valley in a few days. Don't want to wait for a tow truck in Death Valley. I still have 1 gallon of fresh coolant in the trunk and I'll keep it there together with a funnel.

When my leak occurred on the Phoenix freeway, the week before I was on Interstate 8 driving between Phx and San Diego. I often wonder if it broke down somewhere in the middle of this route which is miles from the Mexican border, where would the car be towed? To Az or to San Diego. If I continued on to my trip to San Diego would the tow truck driver or Enterprise rental be covered, and if the car wasn't ready when I was ready to return to Phx (as the Phx repair took 8 days) could I drive the car from San Diego to Phx. Luckily I did not have to go through any of these options. I don't take the car on long trips, I just don't trust it. Especially that it does not have run flats, a flat in the middle of nowhere is also a nightmare. I realize these are all maybes, but I am 75 and have never had to worry about a vehicle with less than 12,000 miles. I do now.

Worrying is a choice and a right.

2017 G90 Love the car. has had no issues until last trip. From a stop, gradual increase in speed the first shift, which appears to be actually, 3rd gear, kicks in but has a series of hesitations. Not sure if it is differential, transmission, or auto 4wd trying to activate. Hesitations are not jerky but they can be felt while driving. I haven't noticed this while cruising. CURT

Depending on mileage, perhaps it's time for a transmission fluid swap.

Got a gallon of this to keep handy.

Damn! I ordered the wrong stuff...
