Need help headlight Issue.

Hello Genesis Owner.
I purchased 2016 genesis month ago, and I can't determine what this is; it's on top of both headlights. I tried to use scratch remover & goo gone & none of them worked as you can see on the second picture. It looked like if there was a film? I can feel the top layer and the bottom layer.
Will headlight restoration kit work in that area? It bothers me every time I look at the car.

Hi Joseph, it looks like the prior owner had the headlights filmed. An easy fix to go have them polished (and removed) or there are many DIY kits available. Most car detailers can take care of that quickly.

I have exactly the same issue as the OP. So just so I'm sure, Hyundai puts a clear coating on the headlights? This is not an aftermarket film coating?

Good question. I noticed this starting on my '15 and wondered at the time if it was Mfr. or done separately. I haven't seen any signs on my '16, but if it is factory and eventually appears I'll have them buffed out.

There is some age-related deterioration on my 2015. The coatings on the thin aluminium trim panels around the windows are fading. Once they start to look really bad I think I might just get them stripped & anodized. Same deal with the coating on my headlights.

Our cars have now had 4 years of being in really, really hot places (I live in Memphis), and that takes a toll. The Koreans might not appreciate the hot Arizona and Florida Sun!

True, Mark. The coatings that Hyundai used are substandard and just don't hold up, especially on the A- thru C-Pillars. You see very few Genny's where those aren't faded in one place or another. At some point, anodizing or recoating might be the way to go.

I think that someone recently had the same issue w/ pillar trim... they just had it wrapped.

Yea skip, we've had several threads debating the options with the pillars. Some have been lucky with getting replaced under warranty while others have received no bueno. We can wrap 'em or paint 'em or go with the Di-Noc Carbon Fiber overlays, but ultimately it's still a bad piece that I hope the newly-minted Genesis brand sources better as they denote their luxury status.

Good to know. Guess they coat them from the factory then. Will have to keep an eye on mine.

yes, and it appears others chimed in before me.. should be a warranty issue if you still have warranty.

body shop or detailer can probably do it, or might be cheaper to replace the lights, do you have HID or Halogen?

I've done them on prior vehicles, just takes some elbow grease or a good orbital. But since so many detailers do them now and competition is stiff (at least in my area), the cost is fairly cheap ($30-50) so doubt I'd ever do my own again. So it may be worth checking around your local shops, as it's cheap and quick. Or, as Mr. Incred said, you may get lucky with someone giving away a set on eBay.

It's incredibly hit or miss with these Hyundai dealers and the ones who choose to cover under warranty vs. those which do not. If all is well other than the headlights, those should at least be an easy fix as mentioned before.

I would give a call to Hyundai Corporate. I have had success in the past getting them to authorize repairs that my dealer said wasn't covered.
