As an early adopter, I own a 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8 AWD...before it was rebranded with the G80.

I k ow hyundai does not honor the Genesis Velet service for the 2015s which pissed me off, but does anyone know if we can take our 2015 Genesis to a stand alone Genesis dealer for service. I have been taking it to the Hyundai dealer I bought it from and find their service subpar....are the 2015 owners excluded from the standalone genesis dealer service?

Step one is to find a stand alone Genesis dealer. Most are just Hyundai dealers with a couple of Genesis trained techs.
It comes down to money. Starts with the valet service. Yes, I have that for my G80 but my G80 cost more than my 2015 like you have. Falls under the "free lunch" clause of the Constitution.
There may be exceptions, but I never found a dealer that would not take money from a customer. I don't see why they would turn you away. Just as they sell other brands of trade ins, I see Chevy and Buicks and whatever being serviced.
Depending on what you want done, a good local independent shop may be cheaper and as good as the dealer. Need brakes? I'd took mine to Kelley's as they do good work at fair prices like $100 less than the dealer.

Early adopter? You bought a Hyundai. Just find another Hyundai dealer. Just stop at Starbucks, etc. to buy an overpriced cup of coffee and a muffin. Good luck finding a stand-alone Genesis dealer.

Thanks for the tips. I looked up "Genesis Dealer" on google maps and assumed the two that popped up were stand alone dealers. I'll have to investigate if they are truely stand alone. Interesting, the Hyundai dealer that I bought it from and take it to for service no longer sells Genesis vehicles? I'm not against independent shops but I have a 10 year 120,000 mile warranty through Hyundai so I need to deal with the dealer. I'm looking forward to getting the valet service when I get a GV80 next year.

Check the Google Street View. I thought the same of Genesis of Dallas, but it shows to be a Hyundai dealer.

Your Hyundai dealer will service it for warranty should that be needed, even if they no longer sell the new Genesis brand. .

That "Genesis of Dallas" is actually Eckert Hyundai where I happened to buy my '15 5.0. When I bought mine there were 2 lone Genesis on the lot. I dropped mine off the other day for service and was shocked to count 30 G70/80/90s lying around. Guess they are finally moving them? But there was really nothing that distinguished the dealership as being a Genesis specialist.

The sad, but interesting, truth is that there are many Hyundai dealers that sell and service Genesii, but DO NOT have a Genesis sign out front. Go figure. It’s been this way for years, since the Genesis Motors was “borned.”

It is sad, your would think that Genesis would have dedicated dealerships in at least the major cities by now. The other premium brands have had to make the expense, and without them, Genesis will never be seen as a true premium line.

No comparison though. The other brands did not have the legal challenges that Genesis had.

Doubt we will see a true stand alone until the SUVs hit the market. Not enough sedan sales to pay the bills. In the interim they certainly could use better signage.

How so did the other breakaway luxury brands (Lexus, Acura, Infinity) not face the same legal challenges as Genesis????? Frankly, Infinity and Acura probably wish they hadn’t broken away.

Genesis/Hyundai shoots ITSELF in the foot. They are the ones preventing exterior Genesis signage at Hyundai dealers who sell Genesis vehicles. Their marketing experts are like a circular firing squad.

A proper marketing plan would have included exterior Genesis signage, even long before Genesis Motors was launched. Without a Genesis sign outside, how does John Q. Public know where a Genesis dealer is located?

I note you said "breakaway luxury brands". That is a clear difference. When introduced, they were brought into new dealerships set up for those cars alone. It was a new brand, a new everything. Same as if you went into the car business and made Erniemobiles and set up dealers. All new.

Genesis, right or wrong, took an existing Hyundai model and did break it away as a new brand. Meantime, they had agreements with Hyundai dealers that sold that model. Genesis, the new company, wanted to have 100 dealers, same as the brands you mentions. Great, lets go! Ooops, there are many franchise laws and dealer laws that make it difficult to do that. The dealers brought on lawsuits that tied things up. They ended up with 400 dealers and much less control than planned on.

Did Genesis make mistakes? Sure, easy to see in hindsight. But the laws of 50 states gave them many roadblocks. Many more than anticipated. They wanted to use the good will of the Genesis model and carry it over to a new brand but Hyundai dealers made it a handicap instead. Easy for us to look back and say "you screwed up" but none of us know all the legalities involved too. I'd certainly not want to be a part of some of the meetings at HQ.

The point is that all vehicle brands face the same laws/regulations when launching a new brand. Nobody kneecapped Genesis Motors.

Hyundai/Genesis is their own worst enemy, it would seem. If I sold Erniemobiles I would never prohibit ANYBODY who sells them for me from putting an Erniemobile sign outside. Yet that seems to be what Genesis did to Hyundai dealers. It’s KWAAAAAZZZZEEEE!

By the way, my name is not Ernie...but I digress.

Where did you hear that? Source?
I think you are drawing a conclusion perhaps based solely on your observations. I have lots of Hyundai dealers around me that have a Genesis sign. So no prohibitions here. You’ve got to get away from your crazy dealers ASAP.

Yes, they all face the same laws on a new brand, but the new brand faces other laws when it is a model taken away from some dealers. That is the big difference. If Chevy decided to make a new Impala brand they would have similar problems. Avoided if you call it Pontiac.

Got it on the name, PMC.

No offense taken on the name Ernie. It’s just a “handle.” Actually, my name is Andy (&y).

You purchased a Hyundai, not a Genesis.

The only model that offered valet service at that time was the Equus and the price reflected that (once the Genesis became the G80 and offered valet service, the price rose to reflect the added luxury service amenities).

You can certainly take your Genesis sedan to get it serviced at a stand alone Genesis dealer (as of right now, there are only a few), but likely warranty repairs will have to be done at a Hyundai dealership.

Many Lexus owners take their vehicle to a Toyota dealership for basic maintenance due to cost and there are even Lexus dealerships that will do basic maintenance on brands other than Toyota/Lexus, but of course, warranty work can only be done within brand.

There are good and bad Hyundai dealerships - may have to drive a bit further, but it seems that it would be worth it based on your experience.

As EdP noted, the intial 150 or so Genesis dealership plan had to be scrapped due to certain states franchise dealership laws.

FCA was able to split off RAM into a separate brand because all Dodge dealerships were offered a RAM dealership (which is what ultimately happened - all Hyundai dealerships were offered an opportunity to get a Genesis franchise).

And even for brands that were already split at the start (as in the case of Lincoln/Ford), certain state franchise laws prohibit automakers from placing undue burdens on dealerships, which is why FoMoCo hasn't been able to force Lincoln franchisees to build-out separate Lincoln dealerships in certain states.
