On cold start engine just developed a lout knock/rattle along with check engine light on. 104k on the engine, oil is good and has not happened before. Have had some mild engine ticking when cold but goes away as engine warms up.
Oil changed as long as I've had the car by Hyundai dealer. Ouch on the broken valve springs. Will that specific problem show up on the OBD computer?Have only OEM oil filters been used? 2010 4.6 has a known problem regarding broken valve springs. Get the code read and have an experienced Hyundai tech check the engine.
ThanksSpring won't show up but will cause other codes.
Had my car towed to a repair shop, not the dealer as warranty is up and have had a couple of previous issues they couldn't figure out under warranty until they replaced the transmission and 2 ecm's and discovered problem was a rusted ground wire.. Have had my oil changes and service done at the dealer since I bought the car. Guess what, the dealer installed oil filter was blocked somehow and oil not circulating. Oil was changed around 1500 miles ago by dealer. Hopefully no internal damage. Good luck with yours and thanks for the feedback. This sounds exactly like what I am experiencing. I have a 2011 genesis 4.6 with less than 25k miles.
Great, great car until this happened. It started knocking on a cold start, especially after the car has been sitting for a day or two. Oil level was fine, oil filter was a genuine hyundai filter. The knocking then stopped, and the car ran great. The next morning, it was knocking hard that the check engine light was flashing for about 10 seconds, then the CEL was gone. We decided to bring it to the dealer that same day. We left it there overnight so the tech could start the car when it was cold.
**Once the engine is at the normal operating temperature, it is running smoothly like there is no problems at all.
Dealer mentioned something about failing cvvt. After dropping the oil sump, they found metal shavings. The dealer quoted over 13k to rebuild the engine. Thankfully the car is under warranty, and the dealership has been very patient and accommodating . Now, the car has been at the dealer for over a month and still in progress.
This car is our first genesis that according to our research supposed to be the most reliable or the perfect model year with 4.6l v8 engine and a bulletproof ZF transmission. We bought it used with only 16k miles. This car had been so great that it convinced us to get a 2015 genesis 5.0. Now, it is broken and we are just left speechless.
A car that is barely driven and supposed to be reliable just broke under our ownership. Bad luck I guess. And, the 2015 genesis 5.0 had a rattle or flutter that can be irritating. Although I am excited for the upcoming GV80, I certainly do not have the confidence in the genesis brand as much as I used to.

I cannot tell you what is wrong with your car. It certainly does not sound good. You should get it checked out before it leaves you stranded. Is your car under warranty?
Did they say what it was blocked up with ?Had my car towed to a repair shop, not the dealer as warranty is up and have had a couple of previous issues they couldn't figure out under warranty until they replaced the transmission and 2 ecm's and discovered problem was a rusted ground wire.. Gunk, whatever that means. Maybe some of the filter element broke away.Did they say what it was blocked up with ?
Strange? I am just trying to imagine what would clog up a filter like that if you changed the oil on a regular basis!Gunk, whatever that means. Maybe some of the filter element broke away.
I gues the filter could brake down like that . I just never heard of it!Strange? I am just trying to imagine what would clog up a filter like that if you changed the oil on a regular basis!
Thanks, not original owner. Did have an extended warranty and that saved me thousands of bucks in repairs, 2 new ECM's, new transmission, water pump, radiator. Think 2010 was a problem year. Problem resolved, somehow the oil filter got clogged and oil didn't flow to engine. Dealer installed element etc. Outside shop diagnosed and fixed. Just hope no internal parts damaged. Are you original owner of the car? If so, go to a dealer to have it looked at. Then ask about getting it covered under Goodwill warranty repair since you aren't too far past your 100k powertrain warranty. Again, original owner only.
Hopefully nothing got damaged! I have the dealer do my oil changes, this is the first car I ever owned where the dealer changed my oil. Makes me think I should start doing them myselfThanks, not original owner.
