  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This week I hit a milestone with my 2012 Genesis 3.8 Sedan prem. I have just turned my trouble-free Genesis' odometer to 200k miles! All highway. I put 160k on the car myself. All maintenance done by myself or warranty work done by the stealer-dealer. The ONLY issue i have ever had is with the NAV screen that is it! Change your oil (full synth), buy tires, change plugs at 100k miles, and just DRIVE. I can say without a doubt this has been the MOST reliable car I have ever driven to put this kind of miles on her in a short period of time. With that being said, should I keep her or retire her into Genesis heaven? I know it has ZERO value now to even bother too much at a dealership but I did see a 2015 Sedan with 40k miles at a good price at a side dealer who prob got it at an auction. Share your thoughts....Im curious.

Thanks

Nice to hear a good experience
The logical, sensible answer is to drive it until it dies and call the nearest junkyard to come pick it up.

Most car buying decisions defy logic and sensibility. Ready for a change?

This is my third Genesis car and if experience has taught anything it’s stick with what works. So let’s see if this third one confirms my expectations. Yours is a tough decision solely on a personal basis but if change is the choice it should be apparent the direction to follow.

Unless your needing something from the next car that the current one doesn't offer, keep what you have. my last car purchase was an upgrade to accommodate some needs the last car couldn't satisfy, and it too was the most reliable anything I've ever owned (nissan altima hybrid, driven to 170K and still got $3700 for it). My back just couldn't take the 2 hours of daily driving in that car, I couldn't stay comfortable in it. The '15 5.0 ultimate was it's replacement. I'm hooked on genesis and thinking of a new '21 G80, or the GV80 because I want AWD and heated steeringwhee (cold/wet winter driving), but I may just keep this '15 5.0 for the long haul.

I can tell you that we miss our 2011 Genesis. We traded it at about 220,000 miles due to it needing the rear diff. replaced. ( began to have a lot of lash in it, but no noise) I would say that new does not mean better. IMO drive your's until next fall , maybe then shop. We have looked at the new Palisade Limited AWD and will most likely trade our Highlander in on a 2021 Palisade when they are available.

YES. The GEN1 does not offer standard remote start yet I prefer aftermarket but it is a pain to install, apple car play/droid support backup/parking sensors (regardless of tech or not), and last but not least poor clearcoat (pearl white peeling and chipping bad). Other than that, Im happy.

Yes I see a 2015 with 41k miles on it and this side dealer is asking $21k for it. I think it is too much as the factory warranty should be still intact right? It has aftermarket wheels that I think bring the value down of the car. It is also wrapped in a matte white and debadged so I am not sure what series it is. Nevertheless it is PURDY and it is a Genny! LOL

Man o Man! You hit it on the head. Many congrats on that. You cannot beat the warranty they have to offer. I really love the G70s with the turbo but (if I am correct). My dealer has had a black 2018 on the lot (black on black with gold accents) for over 1 yr. It is just sitting there at a whopping price of $59k. It is nice but I feel for me I would be losing interior space maybe? What are your thoughts compared to GEN1 and this one?

I am experiencing the RATTLE can at low accelerations (very annoying as it sounds like a 4cyl going up a hill) but I understand that is the GDI making its presence known. I dont know. Just heard it today! I said I know I have oil in this car! LOL I agree, I usually dont jump on the new until it is good an used or at least used enough to be a CPO :)

Yes that Palisade is the truth. MAN I saw one on the interstate and just fell in love. Good choice.

My ‘12 Premium (Cabernet Red Pearl) has only about 45,000 miles on the odo. It has a transferable extended warranty running till 2024/120,000 miles. These days it’s mostly driven by the wife to the supermarket, library, bank, etc. It’s on its second set of tires. It’s destined to be the most cherry 1Gen Genesis around. Fingers crossed, it might be on Wheeler Dealers in a few years.

My daily driver is a ‘19 Santa Fe Ultimate 2.0 Turbo. Recommend you test drive one, Ambush. It’s a super ride.

If it ain’t broke, don’t replace it.
Another option, if a new car will better meet your needs, is to keep both. It is convenient to have a backup car.

Just don’t become the guy with 14 cars lining his driveway that has to park in front of the neighbor’s house.

If the 2015 is CPO, Tech (apple play) or Ultimate (Hud) and you do a lot of highway miles, the ride noise reduction upgrade alone, not to mention the additional toys would be worth it, IMHO.
However 2015+ are slightly more complex to repair the additional electronics, so extended warranty might be well worth the additional expense.
If you can get them to throw it as part of the deal it just might be to good of deal to resist, just my two cents..good luck...

Just two comments:
Warranty is close to gone. Second owner is 5/60.
With wheels and debadged, it was not driven by an old lady going to church. It may have been driven hard by an enthusiast. Some take ultra-good care, others beat the crap out of it.

I agree with the heated steering wheel. Why not on the 15 5.0 Ultimate. I suppose they were thinking you wont drive the car in cold temps? Kind of dumb I thought!

If you want to stand out as a luxury car, that is one item that would help. I really liked it on cold mornings. Probably left off for cost. Many in the snow belt though opt for AWD and it does come with that package.

I agree EdP. My thoughts are, if it is an Ultimate the car should have it all. Heated steering wheel is the only thing that would make me trade off for a newer model.

My other thought is to move down to Florida in a couple years and leave this snow/ice/cold behind. 🙂

I did that last year. . It does get chilly here though, it was 68 when we went out to dinner last night.

Last winter though, a couple of mornings I did turn on the seats and steering wheel first thing in the morning when it was 45. Maybe 3 days all year.

This time of year 68deg sounds really nice. I dont mind cold temps but 2deg is too low for me. But I did know that before moving here. Five more years and south bound I am.🙂

AWESOME! you are lucky to have those low miles! My taxes came in the mail and they have it valued so so low and I WILL get an odo reading to get another discount (I hope).
My friend has a 2014 Sante Fe Sport and I REALLY like it. Very good truck so I can imagine the 19 Ultimate is more gooder. Thanks for the suggestion.

It is funny you say that. My best friend is one of those folks, if one of the cars is not running right he will go by another one and put the one that is not running right in the shop. He has 4 cars total (just bought another one last month). 2 of them run on premium. OH boy. LOL
