  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Several months after buying my used 2009 Genesis, the windshield wipers wouldn't always work. I replaced the fuse with a new one, and that didn't solve the problem. Periodically (almost daily), I have to remove the fuse and reinsert it to get the wipers to work. Anyone else experience these problems and find a solution to the root cause? My work around isn't much fun when I have to stand outside in the rain to do this.

Could the fuse contacts be loose or not making good contact? It's not blowing the fuse, so it sounds like a short condition at the fuse. Can you try a new fuse or clean it with contact spray?

I have tried two brand new fuses and it made no difference. I suspect that the contact issue is not with the fuse itself but the "housing" that I insert it to. I'm trying to avoid taking it into the dealer if I can find anyone else who has experienced this problem and come up with a solution.

Thank you for your repsonse.

I’d recommend you take it to the dealer. Tell the service mgr that you fear the potential repair bill and ask for his free advice. If you don’t like his answer, try the same approach elsewhere.

By the way, you can’t expect to operate an 11 year-old vehicle without repairing it once in a while.

I think you are correct that it is not the fuse. Contact cleaner would be my first step. If that does not cure it, I'd try putting a piece of foil over the fuse contact and reinsert. It may need a bit more pressure for good contact.

You can do what EdP said, and you can also try taking the two little prongs on the fuse and bend them in a v shape. I have done that many time on Heavy trucks that have over a million miles on them. Works rather well!

Each little prong ,instead of flat make them look like a V just a little not too much or the fuse won't go into holder.
