If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oil & Filter Recommendations?

Hey Wavy...For my 16 3.8(I purchased it gently used from a guy in Fla with 13K in August 2019)..ebay has 3 oil filters(genuine Hyundai) for 34.95 free shipping.I have also seen the Hyundaiparts site and it is not bad either IMO...I also watch Walmart/costco for Mobil1(5W30) oil specials...seems like if I can get it for around 5 bucks a qt give or take...I will buy some to have when needed..Have changed all the oil in my vehicles over the past 45 years until this one...with the needed removal the bottom "panels"and the associated clip fasteners/small bolts...I took it in oct to my local Hyundai dealer who quoted me a price of 40.00 to do the labor and filter(I supplied the oil)..so now as I get a bit older this may be the route I take when oil changes are due.Do you do your own oil changes on your 3.8?? and do you have to deal with the lower body panels?

Make sure they use anit-sieze on the bolts that hold the lower cover secure to body. I have the dealer do my oil changes since I purchased car. I jacked it up this week to inspect and clean the lower parts of engine and frame ,and also just to familiarize myself with car. Well 4 bolts were missing and 2 bolts were broken off. So I used left handed drill bits to remove broken bolts and then replaced all the bolts with stainless steel bolts and anti-sieze them. Good to go now!

I am like you, I have been doing my own oil changes ever since I started driving. But those underbody covers are big and take some time to remove. I am going to change them out to the newer style with access doors for filter and drain plug. But they wanted to charge me 300$ freight to deliver the 2 panels???WTF . So I put that on hold for right now. Car is covered up in my garage till spring time. I will change them out then. Definitely check your bolts Jkon!

Hey Kraig...I was considering doing the exact same thing(swapping the old panels for new ones with access panels...think I read in this forum somewhere that new ones now exist that have oil plug/filter access ports that fit 2nd generation.Just don't remember where and if part numbers were mentioned)...that 300.00 you mentioned does seem a bit high for what these panels actually are. Have you got part numbers for these newer panels?? and were you going though the dealer or some parts supplier at that 300.00 price??? If you wouldn't mind sharing them with me as I too will be giving that serious consideration in the near future. Interestingly, mine is in the garage too with stabil in the gas tank and a battery tender hooked up to the battery to keep it fully charged. I live in southern Michigan and knock on wood our winter this year has been very mild...early snow before thanksgiving and it melted...nothing since and 40-50 temps so I think I will be driving my Genny this next week a bit so as to give her a little exercise and put a smile on my face :laughing::laughing:….Thank you for any help you can provide on those new underbody panel numbers....John

I do have them written down they are at home I can give them to you in a couple hours. I have a battery tender also on my car due to all the electronics I did not do the stable however I should have. I guess you and I are kind of like Neighbors I'm right in here in South Dakota.

I have a 2015 V8 do you have the six cylinder. Not sure if the panels are the same but when I get home I'll be more than happy to give them to you.

Yes I guess that is further away than I had thought. I am from the east coast, and wish I still lived there when winter hits. I hate not being able to drive my Genny for months at a time. It really stinks. I suppose I could drive it ,if I did not care about the car.

Kraig...just clicked on the Hyundai parts.com web site you sent and it said it was "no longer processing new orders"...so I copied and pasted 29110-b1210...google search...another site popped up for Hyundai parts. This site said this part would NOT fit my 16 3.8...it would work on a G80(which MAY be more compatible with your 5.0 possibly..not sure there either) ...Thank you for sending the numbers though...I will use them to further check the web over the coming weeks/months...to see if anything positive pops up that would work for our older 2nd gen vehicles.Am currently visiting family in Jersey and will be heading back to MI tomorrow. Will keep you in the loop as to what ,if anything, i can find to make oil changes a little easier on us...john

One last thing...I found the thread with carguy75 doing his swap of these panels. As far as I can tell you will be able to do what he did with his...my 16 3.8 RWD is not looking as promising...on his thread with pics of the new/old panel..specifically the front one. Looks like the access opening for the filter is pretty much center of the panel. On mine the oil filter cannister is left of center(passenger side of engine compartment)...so even IF the panel would somehow magically line up with fastener/bolt holes....the filter access panel would be in the wrong spot anyway for my application....Damn..so close yet so far!!! Thanks again Kraig for your time

Yes . The G80 panels are the panels you need to use. They are the ones with cut outs for thw filter and drain plug. They are the ones I am going to use . I have a 15 5.0. So Carguy75 told me to use 18 5.0 G80 and they will fit.
