  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday, the kid hand drying my Genesis at the car wash used too much pressure and caused the Drivers Side Mirror to become really loose. The housing is fine, and the mirror is in one piece. It won't pop back into place. Using I better pressure, it's like it's it's just fine on the inside of the housing, but very loose to the touch. I can still rotate it with the buttons on the door however, after driving several miles or even a few hours, the mirror starts to slowly fall out of place until it's eventually hanging out 1/2 way out of the housing.

I'm not sure if I need to replace the backplate that secures the mirror because the plastic clips are broke and/or mount inside the housing OR if they're fine and it's just a matter of finding the proper technique of putting the mirror back in place.

Is there a way to disassemble the housing to get a closer look? Or is there a way to pop the mirror back in the place?

The mirror glass is held on by little plastic tabs. If they're busted (most likely) you're looking at a new mirror. Hopefully the incident happened where a camera was present and hopefully the car wash has insurance that covers such accidents, because a new mirror can be $$$$.

Sounds like a clip or tab might be mostly broken and just enough to wedge it into place until the road vibrates it loose again. I'm sure the glass snaps into the actuator piece (#5) which is still expensive but not as pricey as a whole mirror assembly.

Where do you find The individual parts for sale? I haven't found any YouTube video for disassembly.

It's because you don't buy individual parts for it. You buy the entire mirror assembly. It's one connector, three nuts, job done.

While you can find parts listing for most of these individually, most parts stores will say you have to buy the entire assembly, simply due to the low success rate in repair.

Here is the link to 2016s, but you can look up your exact vehicle here. Sometimes subassemblies like this won't have a lot of DIY repairs/info out there so you may be a pioneer in this case. If the car was place will pony up the money, demand a new assembly. If you're stuck holding the bag and you feel comfortable splitting it open to saving a few hundred in painting then go for it.
