  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A friend saw my car and in a jocular manner said "How fast will it go?"
The speedometer reads to 160 though that is highly suspect. Has anyone tested top speed, perhaps on a dyno? Todd?
I have a 2L and does the 3.3 also have the 160 mph (U. S.) speedo?

Likely speed governed at 150ish like most cars. Top speed is irrelevant speed limit is 65-80 depending on state.

My US 3.3 speedo goes to 180, the car is rated for 167 top speed. It is not governed and can go to that speed right now given enough room. I have not taken anywhere near that fast and won’t unless I can hit a private track or strip. Sorry not sure about the 2.0

I have not tested high speeds on the roads; but, according to my dyno sheet my car's wheels were spinning at what would be 119.8 mph (4th gear @ 6500 RPM) before letting off the power. So, there's that... Haha.

I’ve hit 250. JK

Too scared to test it out.

I hit 130 and shut it down. That’s after going both directions checking for cops.

Is 4th the 1:1 gear on our transmissions? Kinda thought it would have been 5th or 6th. Or is 4th preferable for dyno runs?

5th gear is 1:1. Some dyno tuners have used 5th for their sheets, others use 4th - it's a difference between 1.18:1 and 1:1, and the dyno will account for said difference. Really what we're always looking for is consistency. Evidently on the mustang dyno I put my car on, it seemed to favor 4th gear. *shrug*

Just as long as we have the same conditions (ie tire size and gear ratios) when I do my follow up session, I should have a really good picture of my gains.

I’ve hit 148, it keeps climbing at a pretty good rate even past 140, those turbos put in WORK haha
(Somewhere in Mexico) hehe
I have the 3.3 though
I’d guess the 2.0 can go around 130 or 140

I’d urge anyone who will listen — please do not test the limits on public roads. Way too much can go wrong, some to you and some to others. We all know speed is fun, and we all feel confident behind the wheel. But it isn’t worth the risk. Going 100+ on public roads is way different than doing donuts in a snowy parking lot.

Please don’t.

OMG...please. Pretty sure folks here are smart enough to do this on appropriate roads at appropriate times.

Save the drama.

Fast enough to get a BIG speeding ticket.

As we used to say, “you can’t outrun Mister Motorola”.

With the gearing you have and tire diameter the top speed is hypothetically around 230mph, but the car is not capable of that with it's power output lol. With that said, topspeed.com says around 170mph, but with 252hp it would take it a good long while to get there:

2019 Genesis G70 @ Top Speed

I've been in the car (though not driving) at around 140. The 3.3t will keep rapidly climbing past 120 easily, but its probably not worth it to test your luck too many times as you're facing jail time at those speeds in most, if not all, states.

One thing I did notice is how planted the car is even at high speeds. Seriously impressive considering the lack of aero

the 3.3 climbs hard for a while. for me it started to fall on its face around 155-160. as far as it feeling solid on the road it felt like i was only going about 120 when i did that.

Out of curiosity, too much drag or engine running out of breath?

Apparently an uncommonly known fact, electronic speed limiters, at least in North America, are based on the tire speed rating. If a car comes with a tire rated to 150 mph, I've typically seen that the electronic limiter will be rated to about 3 mph less than the max rated speed of the tire, so 147mph in that case. I've heard the Stinger will do nearly 170mph, and those GTs are usually on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or 4s, rated to about 300km/h or 187.5mph (from my recollection), therefore the Stinger is drag limited to about 170mph, so the Genesis would likely be the same.
