  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
Hey team, I am cross shopping a 2016 Hyundai Genesis v8 Ultimate w/ a 2016 Kia k900 v8 w/ VIP pckg. I made a thread similar to this but it was in the broad sub-forum. I figured I'd get more response in here.
Big thanks to @EdP for his contribution in the other thread.

Here is what I've gathered to be the differences:

Kia K900:
-No LKAS like the genesis (massive let down)
-No high beam assist like Genesis (massive let down)
-Better looking shift knob (subjective opinion)
-Better ambient lighting at night
-12" LCD instrument cluster
-Quilted white leather interior is nicer (subjective opinion)
-Has wallet key and for 2016, got smart trunk like the Hyundai
-Also in 2016 K900 got it's version of Hyundai bluelink which is something I would use to pre-heat or cool the cabin
-soft auto close doors (surprisingly useful on many occasions when I owned a 2015)
-Memory seat on the passenger side (I don't think genesis has this)
-surround view camera
-privacy room LED projected interior lighting
(SIDE NOTE: It has always been so annoying that the Kia & Hyundai vehicles never shared each others advancements, options, features)

Here are my questions because I have not driven a genesis yet:
-The k900 does not let me stick my hand in the door handle cup & auto unlock the doors. I have to press a button to unlock the door. (first world problems am I right?) My Lexus IS250 & BMW i3 let's me just grab the handle, pull, and go. Much easier. To circumnavigate the issue, I could buy a k5store canbus module that allows the k900 to auto-unlock the doors when it senses my approaching (mirrors fold out) & also auto-lock when I walk away from the car... No touching buttons required. Does the genesis have a module we can buy aftermarket that allows this?

-Does the genesis have auto folding side mirrors when locking/unlocking? Does it sense you approaching like the k900 would and auto fold out the side mirrors when you walked up?

-Does the genesis have auto tilting side mirrors when reversing? The K900 has this and it's really great to see the tires/wheel location relative to the curb.

-Does the auto high beam work well or is it as delayed as it was in my Range Rover Evoque? Meaning on rare occasion it wouldn't recognize a car coming And on about a quarter of the time it would turn off the high beam a bit late compared to a human doing it.

-Can the shift knob be swapped for a K900 shift knob (or other aftermarket ones?)

-Is your LKAS system pretty good about keeping you in the center of the lane? On my range rover it ping pongs back and forth in the lane. Annoying

Thank you in advance if you have read this far.

I can say that it has all of the mirror/light features... No 360 view until 2017

Dunno about shift knob... Press to unlock, no soft close.... Nevermind. Just go drive one.

I found the K900 too floaty for my liking - the Genesis drives much better. The 2016 K900 shared a platform w/ the Equus, which is nowhere near as rigid...

If you're in the states I don't believe the V8 was offered in 2016.
-As stated, mirror goodies are here.
-I've not noticed anyone trying to add the module for proximity (that's how my Fusion titanium was too, and I miss it), or swap the shift knob with anything other than OE replacement.
-LKAS works well, has a couple of options as to how it responds
-Auto high beams work well for me, but will disengage when picking up reflections of road signs at times

Hyundai Motor <005380.KS> on Tuesday named its former North American chief, William Lee, to oversee its premium Genesis brand following the departure of Manfred Fitzgerald to pursue new opportunities.

Lee faces the challenge of rejuvenating Genesis sales in the U.S. market and making headway in Europe and China, both tough markets to crack for luxury car sales.

"The company expects Mr. Lee, in his new capacity, to lead the brand's further global expansion by leveraging his overseas business operations expertise," Hyundai said in a statement.

"North America is an imperative market for the Genesis brand," it added.

The news follows the appointment this month of Mark Del Rosso, a former president of Audi America, to oversee Genesis operations in North America.

Genesis U.S. sales halved to 10,312 last year, although sales have picked up this year. The United States is the biggest overseas market for Genesis, which generated 72% of its sales in South Korea last year.

Before his stint at Hyundai Motor North America, Lee oversaw Hyundai's Brazil operations and the U.S. unit of advertising arm Innocean Worldwide <214320.KS>.

Hyundai said in a recent earnings conference call that it has set up Genesis sales operations for China and Europe.

Hyundai Motor Group's heir apparent Euisun Chung introduced the Genesis brand in November 2015, bringing in Fitzgerald, a former Lamborghini executive, a few months later to help the automaker shed its value for money image.

So on my K900 when I would walk up the mirrors would fold out. And when walking away they would unfold. Does the Genesis do this?

When you lock the G90 2018 the mirrors fold upon locking, and unfold when the fob is within a short distance from the vehicle. The trunk also opens automatically when the fob is close to the trunk.

Hoping the 2015 is similar. Thank you

yes

The auto mirror folding thing was amusing to me for about a week (wife loves 'em on her Soul !)... Then, I realized that it was just accelerating the wear on those parts. I just fold them manually when in close quarters.

The auto open on the trunk started to drive me nuts too... Call me a Luddite.

I rarely lock my car so a couple of times that it would be nice to have, it did not work. I did sometimes lock the car to use the remote start. If you approach from the right and walk behind the trunk, yes, it can be an annoyance.

If your car is locked and you know you're going to be walking by the trunk, you can push either of the door buttons to unlock the car for 30 seconds (don't open the door). It will relock automatically once the key goes out of range.

Havent driven or tested k900 - was never on my mind after trying the genesis .

Few features i use and like on genesis -

- heads up display . Not sure if k900 has it .
- panaromic sun roof / moon roof
- auto brake hold . So no need to keep holding the brake in stop / go city traffic
- safety featues - lane assist , collision warnings etc .
- auto dim headlifts , auto rain sensing wipers - basically leave lights and wipers in auto forever .

The folding mirrors , the puddle lamps are more gimmic features - one tends to enjoy only initially.

LKAS in my 2015 is a joke...drives as well as my drunken uncle.
If your uncle has never gotten a DUI, it's doing pretty well... :)

On my particular car, the rain sensing wipers are a cruel joke... as they only occasionally work as expected or more often, not at all. Others have no complaints.

Auto Hold is the bomb though.

I love all the features mentioned above, however the one not mentioned which is my favorite is: The heads up display also shows the cars in your blind spot, so you do not have to look at the mirrors. I have not seen another high end car with this feature. Wonderful safety feature and wonder why no copy cats in other brands.

The HUD is the best. I thought at first I would never use it, now when I drive one of my other vehicles that does not have HUD I am kind of lost !

Mine made me kinda carsick at first... but lowering the height & dimming it made it work for me. Use it all the time now - I find the NAV display especially useful.

i guess i got lucky on my rain sensing wipers because they are damn near magic. literally never had to adjust them so far and they are right on target for how hard its raining. love the blind spot on the heads up as well as the other info there. i agree with the above person that the LKAS is sometimes a bit wonky and other times a bit too aggressive. i dont use it on short trips, only on long highway cruises. the best part about the car to me is the cruise control. i love being able to let it come to a full stop in stop and go traffic and then resume with the click of the button to start accelerating again.

Yup, my rain sensing wipers and adaptive cruise work great. Adaptive cruise just takes a little stress out of highway driving and over a long drive, that reduced stress adds up. And my LKAS is not the best either.
