Troubleshooting backup camera

My backup camera is showing a black screen or occasionally horizontal gray lines briefly before going all black again.

I took to dealer and they say it’s the harness. We checked continuity of harness at the trunk and all appears good.

We tested for power at camera, but it was only for 6.7 volts. So it’s getting power, but don’t know if that’s the right voltage. My friend said it is normally 12v or 5v.

They want $5000 to fix it. I’d like to see if it can be done a bit cheaper. Wiring harness isn’t covered by my extended warranty. And they are not fully sure it will fix it. They already tried a new camera and so they are just checking boxes.

Ouch. The techs destroyed my head unit fiddling with the wires to the backup camera, so be careful. If I recall correctly, they eventually had Hyundai tech service tell them the proper resistances between all the wires, and they figured out what was bad.

Buy and aftermarket camera from eBay , get a mechanic to splice in into your factory harness this will work , i had to do this for mine the dealership wanted $1500 for the camera. E bay $40 bucks

Thanks for the suggestion... Unfortunately the dealer already tried replacing the camera under my extended warranty and they said it didn’t fix the problem.

I recently had my backup camera screen go blue with the guide line’s displayed. Dealer found crushed wiring going to backup camera. They repaired wires and all is good now.
