  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone installed a CC in their PCV or done a TB coolant bypass on a 1st Gen V8 ?

I would like to run some intake cleaner like SeaFoam or AmSoil Powerfoam through the intake and then install a CC to keep the residue out of the intake/valves as other cars I have owned. Is it hard to reach the PCV lines?

Also to lower intake air temp would like to do the TB bypass. Do the coolant lines enter the TB underneath? I would likely also wrap intake snorkels and resonators with gold reflective foil tape at same time.

I have not dug that deep into this engine yet but have had good success with these mods on other cars for performance and longevity.

I haven't done that but my boy mike in Vegas has ,everything you want concerning the cc,gold tape and throttle body mods. I truly apologize I don't have his title or user name. I will find it though. God bless you.

edizzle89- Thanks so much. You do nice work. It looks OEM, rugged, and "industrial". Even the mounting is perfect.
This is very helpful, I know exactly what I need to do.

I come from an LS1 background, old school V8. Cleaning the intake of accumulated oil and sludge using SeaFoam through PCV vacuum intake and adding a catch can eliminated WOT high RPM detonation (very dangerous for motor) and power loss/timing retard was getting immediately as well. I also added a TB coolant bypass which lowered the intake temps and this helped as well w the pulled timing.
The can I added was much less impressive looking than the one you devised.

Apparently the oil vapors themselves lower the effective octane and can cause knock/detonation and of course the oil and stuff accumulates all over the manifold and valves and cylinder head. So it benefits in more than one way.

I think a CC should be standard on all cars and I am not sure why it is not.

On GDI (gasoline direct injection) a CC is even more vital with all the carbon that forms on valves since they do not get washed by fuel. You should see all the crap that accumulates in intake without a CC.

Flarfignewton- You are right as the engine wears and ages there will be more blowby and more crap to accumulate over time.

DIRTY SORRY

Thanks MG8.
My engine will soon resemble yours as I will duplicate the wrapping intake as well. Looks great.
Did you leave the "beauty cover" off which I have heard can retain extra heat?

Thanks for all your help.

I changed the PCV valve and added a catchcan and also ran SeaFoam through the intake.

Something I learned:
The hose going into intake from the crankcase has 2 different size openings as the PCV side is 3/8 but it appears the intake side is 1/2.
I ended up detaching from the PCV valve and using that hose w an adapter to add the catch can and preserving that hose.

Also changed the air filter, cleaned the MAF and did the magnet switcheroo in the airbox on the flapper....I took the magnet out and flipped it around so the flap is being pushed partly open and opens wide much more readily. There was a terrible lag when hitting the gas hard from low speed before.

This combination of changes and maintenance really did help some of the hesitation the car seemed to have esp low RPM off the line.

Any further changes would require hacking the computer/PCM to get the throttle response and everything ideal.

Next project will be the TB coolant bypass and intake wrap.

made a custom heat shield and it actually intensified the sound of my intake. i think because the intake now echos off the shield.
