  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rough-ish ride, vibration in the steering wheel. Any ideas? Here’s what I’ve already checked...

Genesis Model Type
Equus (2011-2016)
Hey there,

I’m experiencing a rough, bumpy ride in my 2014 equus (79k miles). Had the wheels rotated and aligned. I bought new tires (Continental extreme contacts dws06). I even had the wheels refurbed by a professional wheel repair shop. Finally, I had the suspension checked out and the tech said it was functioning as it should.

My next step is to take it to Genesis service... but I’m wondering if anyone here has any ideas?

Thanks!

Gosh, tires, wheels, suspension, alignment.. you've covered them all. Does the car have an adaptive suspension that's maybe going bad?

Two more places to check. Your rotors and the drive shaft. I had a Nissan 300ZX that had an out of balance drive shaft and the car felt like it was going to shake itself apart.

Oh yeah, I didn’t even think about that. Thanks!

I'm guessing they've already balanced the tires? I just bought a 2012 Signature two days ago and on my test drive I could feel a strange vibration in the steering wheel at freeway speeds. They did an alignment and balanced the tires and the vibration went away.

Also, to be honest it sounds like your air shocks are going out. Check the ride height. If they are no longer holding air your Equus will look like a low rider and ride like crap.

Your air shocks may be tired/worn and/or brake rotors may be warped.

When brake rotors are turned on a lathe they may initially be smooth but due to the reduced amount of metal they don't handle heat as well and can warp again fairly quickly, resulting in an unexpected vibration. This happened on my Lexus LS, so now I just replace brake rotors with new ones instead of having them turned on the lathe.

Air shocks may still hold the car up at the correct ride height but if the dampers are shot then the tire and wheel will bounce down the road like an over-inflated basketball.
