13K miles 2016 for $29K. Worth it? or too much?

Thank you sir! very helpful, how much per tank? around $50? and how much gas you put at the pump if let's say the gas light is on, 20 gallons? 18?
When the light comes on, I'm usually not able to put more than 16-17 (~$45 for Premium in Houston) gallons in it, they leave you a fairly large cushion...

According to the manual in our 2012 3.8L Genesis we have three gallons left when the light comes on but I don't like to get that low. If there is any trash in your fuel tank it will then make it to the fuel pump, so try not to go there if you can prevent it.
... we average 23.5 mpg actual , not by the display, for rural driving.... 10 miles to work, 10 miles to Costco, 8 miles to eat out, etc. .... highway mileage up to 30 mpg if you stay around 65 mph, but about 27 mpg if you run 80-85 mph
... not sure if the newer cars do this well or not but we are very happy with our 2012

... If there is any trash in your fuel tank it will then make it to the fuel pump, ...

Why is that? Do you expect to have trash floating at the top of the gasoline in the tank? The fuel pickup is at the very bottom of the tank. This is true with the tank is full, and is still true when it is empty. Any "trash" in the tank should be stopped from getting into the pump by the filter sock on the intake.

On a side note, I once had to change a failing fuel pump on the BMW I had. It was at about 180K miles and about 11 years old. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the inside of the tank was spotless.

Joe , you may be correct but it is something I always heard. Doesn't make it true but similar to "Don't fill up at a gas station that is getting new fuel at the same time". I assume things/ trash are more easily stirred up or moving around so to speak. Some trash may float where some trash may settle on the bottom. But even on the bottom it may be stable until almost empty. And yes the filter should get the trash and it would clog up instead. Actually that is what I meant but not what I said... Sorry

I've heard that too about filling up with delivery. Filling your own tank would stir up any matter you had too. Given the distribution system of pipelines, tanks, trucks, another tank, I wonder how pure gas is when if finally hits your car.

I read the post about trash floating in the tank and just had a visual of coffee cups, sandwich wrappers and a pizza crust floating in my tank. No wonder the station pump shuts off so soon.

Thank you everyone for your help!

Hi

I have been wanting a genesis for almost 1 year, im eyeing one with 13K miles for $29K. 3.8 liter with the Ultimate package.
how's the reliability? most important is how good is it on gas? how long will the tank last me? anything i need to know before buying? Also, it doesnot come with Apple car play, but is there a way you could install it?

Thank you!
Hi.. For what is worth....Last fall (Sept 2019) after looking, unsuccessfully, for about 6 months in the Michigan/ohio /Indiana area for my dream 16 genesis...the stars aligned and I found a private owner in Fla with a 16 ultimate(RWD,casablanca white sedan..13K).He had it listed on cargurus/ebay...and low and behold we struck a deal at 24,300. I then had to pay 6% MI sales tax and 750.00 for a car hauler to transport it from Fla to Mi. Since this car has not been exposed to Mi road salt being from fla...I will only take her out of the garage in the winter if/when there is no visible salt on the road. This since I have access to my wifes Ford Edge to deal with the Mi winters. I previously had a 2002 Acura TL...which was a decent car..this genesis is light years better than the TL. Realizing that there is also a 14 year difference there also. The genesis just feels more like a luxury car and like it has been said...the solid sound when the doors close is Mercedes/bmw like without the added $$$$.I am now about 1.5K into driving this car and could not be happier. As a side note the prior owner also provided me with the extended warranty(now transferred into my name) good through 2025 to give me that added piece of mind. So far so good...no unusal noises /issues. ….I would highly recommend the Genesis..provided you can get comfortable with overall mechanical/body condition of the one you are looking at..and I hope you will be happy with yours as I am with mine...good luck!!

MorrisGray...I think some of the "Don't fill up at a gas station that is getting new fuel at the same time" back in the day was that the tanks in the ground at the service stations were single wall steel/metal(some still are in more rural areas I would presume). Thus steel/rust particles internally could be stirred up when being filled by a tanker truck...and filling your car at that time might allow some of that particulate to be pumped into your car tank...the thought then was to let the sediment "settle" back to the bottom of the station tanks..then fill your car tank. Now these days... due to EPA and pollution rules/regulations stations are now using or being forced to use a dual wall fiberglass tank(a tank inside of a tank)..so issues of tank corrosion/leaking are less concerning as time goes on. However, My OLD habits are hard to break and I still do not fill my tank when I see a tanker hooked up and filling 😂

My 3.8 G80 is new, but I get 19-22 in the city (8+ mile trips). My overall average after resetting it about 450 miles ago is 19.x, but that includes some 0-60 testing, and letting it idle for over an hour while I installed a new map update. About 26 on the highway.

500 miles per tank is about right.
Off a cliff... during a hurricane. But I have a 5.0 and a right foot made of depleted uranium. 450 or so miles is my personal best. Might be possible w/ a V6....

The tank is 20.34 gallons so if you put 18 gallons in it, that equates to 27.8 mpg to get 500 miles. If I full up when the warning comes on, I'm putting in closer to 17 gallons, or 29.4 mpg to get 500. Doubtful but I guess possible.

Buy a Genesis sedan for luxury and comfort not so much for mileage. Last time, off a cliff in a hurricane, I got 50 mpg. Ymmv.

Best I've seen w/ the 5.0 was a little over 26 mpg - might have done better if I kept it under 85 mph. It still gets better mileage than my old Infiniti G37s sedan.... It's pretty efficient for what it is.

Right. My 5.0 gets better gas mileage than the 4.6 L V8 in my old crown vic, and with a hell of a lot more power pushing around 700 more pounds.
