  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello fellow Genesis Owners

2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 RSPEC 118k miles

I seem to have some issues with the EVAP system.
The car seems to run fine, but CEL is on and I cannot figure out what to do.
I've replaced the fuel cap and the purge valve above the intake manifold.
The gas pump stops a lot while pumping gas. It seems like gas fills up the fuel neck very quickly and stops the nozzle. The tank is not full and I keep an eye on the gauge so I do not overfill.
Also when I take the fuel cap off, the tank seems to be under a good amount of pressure.
Not sure if that is related.

I attached some screenshots below of the CEL codes but if you cannot see the image they are:
P0449
P0451
P0441
P0450
C1102(inactive)

it’s likely the charcoal vapor canister which is typically located at the rear of the vehicle opposite of the fill tube (so passenger side if filler on driver side).
this occurs when you top off the tank, it causes liquid fuel to get into the vapor canister and then prevents the tank from having room for the vapors to escape.

typical symptoms are flow stopping during filling, and car stalling after filling if the gas cap is on, since the fuel system is a sealed system, when the canister is full of liquid fuel the vapors have no place to escape and it vapor locks the fuel system.

there is a reason why vehicle owners manual say not to top off the tank, it needs that room for the fuel vapor. Not saying you do, but at some point someone overfilled the tank and caused the fuel to overflow into the canister.

the canister will need to be replaced to correct the issue.

This might help

Thank you for your response.
The fuel stopping during pumping has been happening since I bought the used car. I bet that's what it is.

more than likely, several members here have had similar issues I’ve seen it on other forums for other makes and it is always the same thing, tank gets topped off, car starts to stall and throw a CEL, Evap canister has to get replaced.

You wouldn't know the Part number for the Vapor Canister would you? @Mr. Incredible

It's been awhile. I was finally able to complete the repairs. I changed the Canister, Fuel Tank Air Filter, PCSV, FTPS and the P0441 still keeps coming on. Going to leave the battery unplugged overnight and see if that removes the error. I would hate to have to go to the dealership just to have the code reset.

Do you not have access to a code reader that you can use to reset that cel yourself? Has the gas pumping issue been resolved with your parts replacement?

Is there a way to purge the liquid gas out of the canister?
