Is this amp mono or stereo? It has stereo inputs and outputs. Why buy this if you only need one channel? Seems like a waste of money paying for a second channel you aren't going to use. Splitting the output of the Genesis amp to both inputs on the Kicker gives no advantage. Maybe I'm missing something here.

If it could be used in a bridge mode configuration (L+ & R+ output feeding one speaker), I would consider it but nowhere in the manual does it mention bridge mode. The manual's pretty vague.

I'd look for a dedicated mono sub amp.

Ah ha... I just found the pic on Best Buy showing the outputs. Two terminals each for positive and negative. Case solved. Mono.

I found that to be true with my old G37s sedan...! Sounded better with junk in the trunk!

So I installed the amp and all I can say is OMG. That is what my car really needed. I used some wire tappers that didn't work and my attempt last night was unsuccessful. I couldn't even get the amp to turn on. Today, I spliced and soldered all wires and boom, everything works.
Couple of days ago I was at Chicago Autoshow and sat in brand new G80 Sport. Cranked up the music and was amazed how much better it sounds than 2015. When I got back into my car and played the music I was sad and decided to do something about it. Didn't like the idea of adding new Sub Speaker into the trunk as I need the room for when I go to Costco with my wife... lol. Decided to try the amp first and it really really makes a huge difference. Thanks to everyone who contributed here.

Congrats, I'm happy you got it working , yes the amp makes a big difference, that factory sub is not bad at all. I think Hyundia was being cheap with the factory amp.

How would you compare G80 sports to your car now with the new amp ?

It does make a night and day difference. I don't want to compare it as of yet. I need to play with gain and crossover little bit more to find the sweet spot. Right now I keep my bass at 0. Having said that, door bass speakers generate less bass and it mostly comes from the rear now. I need to tweak it so I can utilize door bass speakers equally with the rear sub if you know what I mean. It is definitely very close to new G80 now! I freaking love it!

Yes you will find that sweet spot tuning, with this mod, now the car is really a Ultimate

I haven't taken any pics. I was going to do it but my first attempt to complete this project failed due to bad wire taps. I attempted it again the next morning before work and got everything to work but had to leave the house and didn't get a chance to take pics. I will have to go back there and clean up the wires so they are not all over the place and then will take pictures and create quick tutorial

This thread led me to try just the amp alone. Last week I purchased a Rockville RXD-M1 Mono amp. Made a noticeable improvement with the stock speaker and is worth the $110. I researched quite a few different amps b/4 deciding on this one but I overlooked it had line inputs only. So I picked up a PAC RP7-2 Line Out Converter at Amazon for $18. This converts the speaker signal into low level line inputs on the amp so you don't overload the input. This model has a sense wire out to turn on the Rockville.

The LOC wouldn't work. You had to crank the stereo to 3/4 volume to turn on the Rockville. I then found many online saying there were problems with that model. I tried a second with the same results.

There is a input sensitivity adjustment on the Rockville. I tried wiring the speaker out directly, used the cars ACC+ to power the sense turn on, lowered the sensitivity control way down and it seems to work fine.

Until... Now the entire car audio randomly turns off. Works fine when driving but if I stop the car and listen with the start button on ACC, it will at some point shut off and it requires waiting a minute to get it back working. The head unit still works, showing the song playing and the volume adjustment but there's no sound. Sometimes it requires shutting the ign off and restarting the car before the stereo will work again.

The only wires I touched were re-routing the sub speaker + & - to the amp and back and then splicing into the ACC+ to the sense wire on the Rockville. Bizarre that it can turn off the cars amp. Every wire I added has extra shrink wrap and in some places spiral wrap to make sure there's no chaffing.

Today I will try checking the sense voltage if it acts up.

I 'spose this isn't the proper forum to look for answers but I thought I check if anyone here had a similar problem.


(Velcro to the rescue. Amp is actually pretty heavy. I'm guessing the sticky backing with come loose before it detaches from the carpet)

Only thing I can recommend is re-wire everything back to original state and confirm that audio does not shut off. I had a problem with the ACC not sending signal to turn on the amp due to bad tap to wire. I had to remove all tap to wires and soldered every single cable. Worked like a charm. I can actually feel the amp turn on when shutting down the car before opening the door by lack of bass which works as designed. Is yours Ultimate? Do you have a picture of the wires?

It's an Ultimate. I have to admit, the only crimp-on connector I used is on the ACC wire. That's why I plan on checking the sense wire voltage to the amp when it decides to shut off. Makes no sense that it would shut the Genesis amp down completely.

No pics of the wiring. I guess I'll have to pull the panel again and solder the connection.
