If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I have the 2025 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 with the 14 speakers lexicon audio. Like most I find the bass to be lacking but the overall audio is superb. (Not a car audio expert) Is it possible to buy an amp to give the door speakers more bass? Or is it possible at all? Don't really care to buy a subwoofer if I don't have to (love a nice stock look) Thanks guys

Not an audio expert either. I wouldn't mess with the stock systems if you are under warranty in case something happens. But, Best Buy sells a hide-away woofer so that you can still have the stock look you are wanting. Here's a link: Kicker Hideaway

You're not going to get any added bass without adding a sub. I definitely wouldn't go with the kicker hideaway. If you have a car audio place near you, they can point you in the right direction. I'd think you could get a 10 or 12" sub in a custom made, sealed enclosure for about $300. A good shop will more than likely have carpet to match the trunk so it'll blend right in.

I have a couple of 12" JLs lying around and plan to have sealed enclosure built for one of them. I listen to mostly classic rock but everything sounds better with a little bass!

Thanks for the reply. I went with a 12 inch JL subwoofer. The bass is bananas I think I probably could have went with a 10 inch. But so far, it breaths a toooon of life into the already pretty good sounds system.

How did you hook up your amp and sub?

To BobBeau above:

I don't agree you need add an additional trunk sub. To my surprise, the stock sub is capable... just neutered by the Genesis amp.

After reading in the "Foglight/Lexicon" thread that an additional dedicated subwoofer amp using with the stock 10" speaker is a big improvement in the sub bass, I went that route. A bit thanks goes out to poster 'dfyffe' who brought that up.

Unless you want thundering 20hz bass, adding just an amp should make most happy. I am, and I'm a bit of an audio snob. Two subs in my home stereo.

Bass that was gone below 30-35hz is now loud and clear. I ran some test signals and the stock speaker is now putting out decent volume down to around 23hz.

I haven't listened to a sub in a box in one of these but for a $110 amp and minimal impact on trunk space, I feel it's a ' best bang for the buck' deal.

Hey Arc, being an audiophile myself (not too snobby although I run 4 subs in my HT) this is on my Genny To-Do list but hasn't been a top priority.

I recall the thread you mentioned and re-read dfyffe's shortcut to adding a sub amp and may be a better first attempt rather than going the full sub route. Like BobBeau, I also have a couple of old 12w6's lying around but can't exactly hide them without eating up trunk space and that gives me pause. I also happen to have a virtually NIB JL 500/1 (overkill I know) that could work perfectly for this attempt, just wondering if that amp will be able to be mounted in the space available, hmmm. Can you give an idea of what space is available to fit an amp?

My JL 500 is attached to the seat back with Velcro. Just cover the bottom of the amp and apply- hasn't budged in 4000 miles and is pretty difficult to remove too. I have a single 12W3v3 in a ported Fox box which consumes quite a bit of space, but it's extremely efficient- it puts many higher power systems to shame. The trunk has really impressive sound deadening too- I have to turn the sub down before I open the trunk or I tend to fill the surroundings with boom :p

Thanks Sub. Had hoped there would be some room in one of the cowls somewhere, but wishful thinking I know. Appreciate the tip though.

Gonna take some debate in my mind which way to go, as I'd been picturing some custom angled enclosures in each rear seat corner (leaving the ski-door open), one for each JL lol. 🤪 But based on everyone's comments, I'm beginning to realize my crazy is getting the best of me...again!

Need. To. Focus. Wheels. First.

Whitey,

I posted a pic of the amp on the third page of the 'Foglight/Lexicon' thread. I put a strip of Velcro across the top and bottom to attach it to the back of the seat.

I considered removing the styrofoam tool holder and mounting it above the spare tire but didn't because the back seat was just easier. Back in '88 I did exactly that with a Sanyo 50 watt amp inside the spare in a Civic hatchback. Never had any heat related issues.

Try the amp only route first. I think you'll be happy.

Took a look, Arc, and yep looks fairly clean and secure. I'm surprised they hold so well with nothing but the velcro. The spare tire well is a good thought too but hadn't looked under there yet to analyze what options exist.

Based on your and Sub's comments, I suspect my curiosity may have me experimenting with both options before all is said and done.

Thanks for the input and keep you guys posted!

Hey, I am looking to install an Amp and Sub myself. How did you hook yours up? Thank you in advance,

Power direct from battery, sound tapped from sub channel on amp, switched REM power from front fuse box.

I had mine professionally installed and apparently the hardest part was getting wires from the trunk past the rear seat.

My amp was mounted on the side of the spare tire well with a lot of space left for the spare tire.

Thanks for the heads up, dfyffe. I was thinking there would be more than enough room under there to mount it inconspicuously. (y)
