  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Today's mini project: "Detailing" the G70's interior while trying something new...

I've always conditioned my leather with Lexol conditioner but that seems too 20th century. So, after some research, I decided to try Gyeon's Ceramic leather coating. If the hype is to be believed, this stuff will last one to two years. It is hydrophobic, protects against UV rays and oils yet doesn't change the properties of the leather. After letting dry for about an hour (which allowed some scary streaks to go away) I didn't notice a hint of a change in the leather. Success!

I'm going to try out its hydrophobic qualities tomorrow when it cures a bit more, but I have high hopes as it's gotten pretty good reviews. Really happy how it turned out 😁

How's it holding up? The hydrophobic properties?

Also, is the back of your seat white or is that the camera angle screwing with me?

Heh, I meant to make an update on Sunday, but I ended up proposing to my girlfriend that day, which I wasn't planning to do but the conditions were absolutely perfect. Needless to say, everything I mean't to do that day went out the window, haha. (she said yes, to be clear!). I'll get some pics later today.

Nope, it's black with silver stitching. The lighting in my garage is terrible; I tried to get the best angle I could.

Oh wow, congratulations! She must be a lucky gal. Getting close to that age myself so it really hits home.

Yea, mine is still pretty new and I really like the factory smell of the interior so I'd like to avoid applying any product unless it's absolutely necessary.

As for the seat, yea realized it's the lighting but it really looks two-tone and I kind of wish that was an option now ahaha.

Oh wow, congratulations!

Thanks!

I will say that the factory smell hasn't gone anywhere. The coating itself has a really alarming mineral spirits-like smell, but that goes away within a couple hours.

Well I'm pretty damn impressed... Even when it sat for a few minutes, the water still didn't absorb into the leather. As I said before, the look and feel of the leather is completely unchanged, but the protection is easy to see! Let's roll that beautiful bead footage:

What are you using to keep the seats clean after applying the gyeon? baby wipes?
Thanks!

I had the same smell after applying gyeon to my white leather seats but took the car out for a 15 minute drive with the windows down and moonroof open, Smell was gone when I puled into my garage. What are you using to keep the seats clean - baby wipes?

I've tried everything, and the best leather conditioner IMO is Chemical Guys, which is what I use now. Before that was Griot's Garage, but it's a bit 'greasy' and sticky. This thing dries completely, and zero residue; and leaves leather smooth and supple. I'd be afraid to try anything more 'chemical', since leather needs to breathe. But report back in a year, and tell us if you still stand by your initial testimonial:). Thank you.

What are you using to keep the seats clean after applying gyeon? I've read a couple of Tesla people say Baby Wipes.

Tesla seats are vinyl, not leather. I had the $1K optional premium white seats, which were really nice, but still vinyl. I still used leather cleaner to clean the Tesla, but guess you could use vinyl cleaners too. But on leather, don't use anything else other than leather cleaner.

petraman,

Thanks for your post.
I'm going to do the same next a coupe weeks/month.
I've got Gyeon Shield and just wait for weather to cool down a little bit to apply it.
Florida summer is brutal.

By the way, Gyeon has a leather cleaner they recommend to use before applying ceramic coat.

This is for the guy asking what to use to clean leather.
Also I use Dr. Beasley's.

Used this on two new cars earlier this year. This past weekend, my wife applied sunscreen before going to the beach and hopped in the car. After spending a hot day in the sun, the brown leather had big white areas where her arms and legs sat on the seat. I was afraid it was going to be baked in. But after a little light scrubbing with a 20:1 diluted all-purpose cleaner, the seat looks like new again. Whether it was the Gyeon or not, I can't be positive, but I'll be using it again in the future.
