  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Which one would you buy?
I have been doing my own research strictly on line on both models .
But without a test drive (amid the current situation) I can't seem to make up my mind hence this thread created.
I have not been here in a while and I still own the 2013 Genesis r-spec (great car btw)
Thank you in advance.

I would certainly enjoy the G80 sport more than the smaller G70. Regardless if I wanted a back seat or not, the G80 is a better fit for me.

Really depends on your needs/what you prioritize.

If handling/driving dynamics is your thing, then the G70.

If you want/need more space (esp. in the rear), then the G80.

But if you want the space and more of the handling/driving dynamics of the G70, then can always wait for the 2021 G80.

That sounds like a better option. The reviews really make the car stand out.

I am near retirement so space is not an issue since there are only two of us most of the time and we also own a Santa Fe for hauling people if needed.
I've been locally looking at the 2019 used G70s in RED which are deeply discounted despite very low mileage.
I also heard rumor that these extremely low mileage in REDs have been re-painted???
Which trim(s) is a better choice of the G70 3.3T that blends between sport & comfort ride?

I own a G70 dynamic, which in Canada is different from the US model. It's a 3.3T AWD with the standard suspension and missing a few items like no HUD, wireless charging... It comes with 18 inch wheels and all season Michelin's. I've driven the G80 current generation as well as the G70 2.0T but I have not been in the R-Spec.

My thinking is that the G80 is closer to what you drive now in terms of comfort but because the R-Spec is a 2013, maybe the overall NVH is closer to a G70. The G70 feels a fair bit more sports sedan like and the G80 more luxury sedan. Both great but very different markets.

I think the only way you can decided this is to test drive them but if you went for the G70, I'm thinking you may want to find a non Sport model.

I can't speak to the G80 Sport (besides it's being bigger and heavier), but one nice thing about the G70 Dynamic is that it's the only model (I believe) that comes with the high performance brake pads. Not only do they stop better but they don't seem to have the problem of overheating and leaving pad deposits on the rotors, causing brake vibration that many Genesis and Kia Stinger customers have had to deal with (myself included). It cost me $400 out of pocket to buy those pads, which, after getting new rotors, finally solved my vibration problem.

Today I test drove a used 2018 G80 Sport (with 17k miles) and two almost new G70's with one is RWD and AWD being another.
Here are my personal takes on these models in relationship with my 2013 r-spec.

1) Comfort and quietness. My r-spec is a clear winner in this regard.
2) Sportiness. The G70 RWD is a clear winner. Very eager engine and very nimble to drive. Sorry the AWD did not come close by comparison. It feels more road noise and vibration at high speed than the RWD.
3) Technologies. The G80, no doubt is the best in its class in this regard.
4( Pricing. The G80 can be had for 37k asking price. The AWD G70 is asking 39k. The RWD G70 is 38k. I believe there are rooms to wiggle for these prices amid the current market.

As of now I am not even sure it's worth trading my r-spec for one of these. My only concern with my current car the r-spec is that it's getting old and I am not in the age where I can do a lot of DIY repairs myself looking forward a couple of years from now so the newer car would give me that peace of mind in that regard.

I will test drive another G70 at another dealership today and let's hope I can land one in soon.

Well I did today.
Drove home a gorgeous in RED with 72 miles.
Will post pics and review soon on G70 forum.

Congrats! Pics are required!

No way! Havana Red? I like, that you "still" follow my steps, after all those years!

Here's my ride and wifey's '20 Santa Fe ;)

What can I say....a red G70.
That's my sweet spot.
Congrats.

First thanks all for the kind words, even more so special to Darecki.
My moderate mods list just get started. Just ordered thru Hyundaishop.com last night
Front mud, bumper guard, all weather floor mats, and wheel locks.
She will get a complete detail from me over this coming weekend. Wash, claybar, polish and wax.

Ha ha LOL.
Be honest. I could not find a black G70 Dynamic trim so I had to settle for the Red color.
BTW your ride looks absolutely dope. (y)(y)

I'm feeling a bromance here, take that to another forum. 😆 I'm kidding.

Congrats on the new ride, that red is clean, both yours and dareckibmw!

Based on my reading, it seems one advantage to the G70 is that it uses the newer Hyundai-tech (the same one found in the recent Sonatas, Palisade SUV, etc. Whereas the current G80's are still on the older software platform rolled out when Hyundai first released the MY15 Genesis back in 2014.

I am in the same boat as you. Cant decide between G70 3.3 or G80 sport. What aspect pushed you towards G70?
Let me know.
Thanks

There were several factors.
How big of a car I (we) need was more or less a determined factor.
Besides we already have a Santa Fe for hauling stuff if needed so the decision going toward a smaller vehicle was easier.
The G80 is definitely bigger, more comfy and less sportier but more expensive.
The G70 is quicker from a dead stop, maneuver around the curve with ease are some of the primary reasons I did not find in the G80.
Now I own the G70 so I could be biased but you should go out and test drive both at least more than once.
In general the only thing I miss is the v8 from my last ride.
Had a G80 Sport came with a V8 engine. It would make my decision toward a G70 a very difficult one.
