  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hooning a Turo Rental Car in the time of COVID

Yeah only problem with driving an amazing car is that you may come back to your G70 and be disappointed! :D

All about compromise! My G70 isn't nearly as fun as my Miata was, but it also lacks the flinty ride, claustrophobic cabin (with the top up) and omnipresent cacophonous din.

In an ideal world we'd all just have many cars for many purposes.

Always surprises me how cheap these are to rent.

I know most people run these like a business using a “fleet” method and may not be using their personal car, but I couldn’t imagine any reasonable amount of money in exchange for me giving my car to some random guy for a day knowing exactly what they’re going to do with it.

*Knowing exactly what I do to it* ;)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Not seeing anything that exciting to drive in my area. There are cars as cheap as like $18 for the entire day. That's like a short Lyft ride, how the crap is it so cheap..?

..and on the other end of the spectrum, you got a POS like this Chrysler 300 for over $500 a day. Sure it's got a de-tuned V8, but that thing is a econobox BOAT. Someone needs to tell him his car ain't worth that price. Sorry! Lol.

Checked my local town on Turo. Got high-end options like an Altima or a v6 mustang. Oh and a 8 year old Jeep Liberty. Awesome.

got me thinking I could monopolize the luxury market here. But still no. Hell no.

And how much to rent your car for a day, Todd? :devilish:

How about I post mine for $509.99, and I'll write in a description saying, "way faster, more luxurious, and better in every way than Rob's silly old, beat up Chrysler 300 boat car."

😇

It looks like maybe people aren't allowed to rent out their cars in NY, but there are a ton right over the bridge in Jersey.

Booked a 911 Carrera S cabrio for my birthday weekend (May 2nd)!

I occasionally work for Extreme Experience as an in-car instructor...folk spend $300+ to drive an exotic 3 laps around a race track. As a result, I've driven a lot of exotic cars on race tracks, including Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches and McLarens.

Of the bunch, the only car I would own if I had the money, would be the Porsche. Comfortable, solid engineering, and capable of being an every day driver...the others are fast, handle very well, and after a couple of hours, uncomfortable, with limited visibility and (for my old butt) hard to get in and out of.

I once rented a Chrysler 300 from Enterprise (not on purpose, I just asked for a mid-size car and that's what they gave me). Drove it 600 miles on business. I liked the car, nice interior, decent enough handling and comfortable on the freeway. I don;t know I would agree it was an "econo-boat"...and I sure wouldn't pay $500 a day for it....my rental was $150 for the week.

By all means...try them out. Just be sure to bring disinfectant wipes...and I'm not sure driving around the city would be that much fun....take them out on some twisty 2 lanes to really experience the handling.

I was just joking around with the 300, exaggeration mixed with some sarcasm. That's all! 🙃

I get a lot of targeted ads for Xtreme Xperience. Was seriously considering doing it one of these days. Worth it?

Depends....first, only do it on a pro track like Watkins Glen, Road America, etc. World of difference between a 8+ mile track and a 3 mile long club track.

You might 1st consider an “HPDE”, high performance driver education. They’re sponsored by car clubs who rent a track for a weekend, charging folks to bring their cars out. Novice drivers get an in-car instructor and some clubs have classroom instruction where you learn how to run your car at speed, safely, on a race track. The difference is with XE, you get maybe 15 minutes...in an hpde, you get 200 minutes in 8 sessions over the weekend, plus the benefit of knowing what your car is capable of (especially the g70).

Then do XE when you can really wring out the cars.

Do a search on hpde, then create an account at motorsportreg.com to register and see the what’s available. In normal times, there’s at least 1 every weekend.

That does sound fun... I wish I had thought of doing an HPDE when I still had my Miata. Of course, only now do I have money for fun activities.

I do have some experience in go-karts?

Any of those courses are good. I had a neighbor that worked in summer for Skip Barber, usually at Lime Rock. He taught a lot of police agencies and body guard types. It is a bit different than high school Driver's Ed. One of them does not teach you what to do if you find yourself travelling sideways at 60 mph.
