  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All,

I posted this in wheel forum but no answers so trying on this forum before I let it go.

I own a 2014 Genesis RSpec sedan. Within the past few months, one of my wheels is showing what appears to be a peeling of the coating on the surface. Only one wheel at this point. I don't believe this is curb rash since I am extremely careful in parking. Has anyone else experienced this type of deterioration? If so, do you know the cause and best remedy? (Buying a new rim of course would solve the problem with this one.) I have attached two photos but there are numerous areas on this wheel. Thanks much for any input

Sorry to hear. This seems to be a prevalent issue with Hyundai vehicles.

It's aluminum corrosion. Common on all aluminum parts as they age, and 6 year old machined surface wheels are no exception.

The machined aluminum surface is clear coated and you're seeing corrosion under the clear coat. A competent wheel repair/refurbish shop can fix it for maybe $50-$100 per wheel including repaint/reclear.

You can DIY with wheel acid with proper PPE (hydrofluoric acid is nasty stuff!) and some mechanical sanding/polishing equipment but it will eventually return if you do not properly clear coat the bare finish.

Thanks very much for the replies. I will explore repairs if I can find a reputable wheel repair source in Queens.

Very common on alloy wheels, corrosion. Easy repair, No matter where you live a mobile wheel guy exists and will either come to your residence and repair, or for slightly less you can take it to him. Here it runs $125 average and most warranty it after repairs. Or you could do exchange with Keystone for a few dollars more. Google Keystone or LKQ for more info on the exchange if interested or Mo
