sport vs.regular mode

I can see that the suspension is clearly tighter in sport mode but I always thought that crisper handling comes with the downside of a rougher ride. I have switched back and forth between sport and regular many times on different surfaces and do not see that the ride is any rougher in sport mode.

What gives? Am I insensitive to road smoothness ?

Not only a stiffening of the suspension but also less boost to the power steering. Are you wanting something more?

I was just referring to the fact that the stiffening of the suspension does not seem to cause the ride to be any rougher. That seems to be against the laws of auto suspension to me.

Maybe the better test would be to try to detect differences in the modes while driving aggressively, i.e. hard cornering, braking, accelerating.

I agree with you. The ride of the car feels the same no matter setting. Eco/sport/normal..they all feel the same to me. I have tried the same route with curves and bumps etc. I dont feel any difference in the ride.

Yes It seems odd to me. Next time I drive the car I am going to put it through some tests , Bumpy roads and twisty turns at lower/higher speeds and I will report back. I only drive the car a couple times a month which dont help .

So...do you have a Genesis G80 or a Hyundai Genesis? Last I saw you were looking at a 2015 5.0 Tech package (which is a confusing combination, you can't get 5.0L and Tech, only Ultimate). Only Ultimate gets the adaptive suspension, Tech means you have the touring suspension. If the suspension is the adaptive version, if it's working correctly Sport mode should be undeniably rougher on rough surfaces.

The struts/dampeners have electrical plugs going to them, so assume that's for the adaptive suspension. I am sure if I were back in New Jersey I would know if they were doing there job or not.

I have a 2015 5.0 Ultimate w/ the adaptive shocks and the ride IS noticeably more stiff in sports mode. I play around with it on occasion if I'm driving on hilly/curvy roads outside of town but usually I leave sports mode off... Unless I want to dust a Charger off the line or something!

Ok, so you have a Hyundai Genesis (not a G80) and what trim level is it? What motor size?

The packages available on the Hyundai Genesis are (slightly) different from the Genesis G80.

My 2015 5.0 Ultimate with active shocks rides nearly the same(compliant and well controlled) on smooth roads regardless of drive mode. However, the ride gets noticeably stiffer over large bumps and around curves in Sport mode than it does in the non-Sport drive modes.

If you have a V6 or V8 non-Ultimate model than you have standard passive shocks that does not adjust with the drive mode like the active shocks. However, the standard shocks may have some passive adaptive design that relies on valves to keep the ride tight around corners but ride soft any other time.

Mine is a 2016 Ultimate 3.8, seems in the sport mode the steering tightens up and of course the trans shifting changes but notice no difference in the suspension....maybe if there was an 5.0 available in 16” !

When I was looking to buy a 5.0 I could not find 16 5.0? I don't know why. Maybe they were not available in the U. S.? Iam very happy with my 15, I am also very happy I went with the Ultimate. The HUD and little things like the illuminated door sill plates. ECT, ETC !

Also, I think that the 2015 Ultimate was the only one that had the electronically adjustable shocks until the G80 Sport came out.

yeah, it was a 3 year gap. The systems aren’t even the same.
