  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Push-button Starting System

Re: Push-Button Starting System

Dan, thanks for the update. I guess I'm not too surprised that they found nothing wrong on something like this.

Every time I get the buzz on startup I think, "Well I know there's at least one other Genesis owner out there with this." It's comforting somehow...;)

A 'silver lining' of sorts....

Still leaves you wondering what the technical explanation for the buzz is... the wiring, a connection, electrical feedback or a switch?
Right now they are taking the approach "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" instead of trying to isolate the problem. I am sure some bright spark will figure it out eventually...

Simon--

I agree with your conclusion. Like most, after purchasing a new car, the one thing you don't want is a problem of any kind. I do a good bit of driving (mostly local) with my work. I'd hate to find my car DOA in someone's driveway in the middle of no where due to whatever this buzzing is. Don't get me wrong--I don't know that anything would ever happen, and certainly would prefer not. But, if there's a noise that we all agree (including the svc. mgr.) should not be there, wouldn't one think it prudent to discover it's source, and fix it?

Maybe I'm a little too logical....

Dan,

I am afraid that's not how it works in the real world. If there is no part failure and they cannot diagnose a fault then your only other option would be to make waves with Hyundai directly, or else the dealer won't get paid for their diagnostic time.

Simon--

Yeah, once again, I agree w/your conclusion. I'm certain that they're only willing to spend a cursory amount of time on something they're not going to get reimbursed for. My time is fairly committed during business hours, but it may be (OK, is) worth the effort if I actually want it corrected!

Thanks, as always--

Dan

Hi
My car does the same noise when I start the car and when you turn it off it doesn't buzz until you open the doors. I thought it was normal. so please keep us posted with any new information.

I've been watching this forum and your post (buzz when opening doors) really seems like the sound is centered around the steering wheel adjusting itself when you turn on the car or exit the car. I don't have my Genesis yet, so I don't know exactly how it works, but my previous car (Phaeton) could be set to push the seat all the way back and lift up the steering wheel so that you could get out of the car easier. Could it be that the steering wheel movement is causing the buzzing for some people?

New to this forum. Just joined today but have been viewing everyday since getting my new Gensis 3 weeks ago. Mine does the buzzing also. I believe it is the automatic locking and unlocking of the steering wheel. Not sure where I read it in the manual (thanks for the info on the .pdf files they are great) but there is a process you can go through if the system does not automatically unlock the steering wheel. Don't know why it has to make noise though.

This is not noise from steering wheel movement. The steering wheel motors make a very pleasant hum when they move the wheel. This is a louder, more obnoxious, but brief buzz. I have my steering wheel memory settings disabled so that the steering wheel doesn't move at all when starting and turning off the engine. I hadn't noticed it until I read the previous message, but sure enough the buzz doesn't sound when you turn the car off until you open the door.

I may activate the auto steering wheel adjustment because the buzz goes away when that feature is on. I leave it off just to save wear on the motors since I don't need it to help me get in and out of the car!

Could some of you try that experiment? Turn off the steering wheel memory adjustment, and drive the car around a while through a couple of start and stop cycles. You wouldn't know you have the buzz if you have the auto steering wheel adjustment on.

Thanks!

Does the buzz go completely away when the auto steering wheel adjustment is on? If so, that sounds like it's still linked to the steering wheel electronics. Could it be that turning off the auto adjustment flips a relay and that relay buzzes when it's not doing anything? Electricity still goes to "adjust the steering wheel" but since the option is off...

At the very least, that would be something to let the techs know. It may help them figure out the problem.

I keep drawing premature conclusions. Today I drove the car with the Easy Access Steering enabled (steering wheel adjusts when starting and turning off the engine). I was wrong -- it still makes the buzz blast. It makes it just before the steering wheel moves to adjust when starting the car. And after turning off the car, it makes the buzz noise again when I open the car door. I can live with it if I know it doesn't indicate a problem. It's just a wee bit annoying... Wish we could get some Hyundai techs or engineers to join the forum!

Yeah - A tech would be nice to sit and listen... The fact that it happens at such precise times should make it fairly easy for a tech to work out. The fact that it's happening with more than one car should make it even easier.

I can't think of anything else that would adjust (or turn on/off) when the car opens and when the car starts though.

Assume you are speaking of T-56 I just posted in another thread. The answer is, "they should be able to tell you." My dealer has online access to service records and after I had mine done, I could go home and look to see it was in fact posted to the maintenance record. If yours was done as part of the car "prep", before you closed on the deal, it may not be logged.

I was.. and I clicked the wrong link to reply to the right thread. Or wait. is that the other way around... EEEEK. I need more coffee.
