  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thanks a lot MapNSoft

(nothing but venting here...)

After debating for months about updating, on Jan. 10, 2020, I decided to go ahead and purchase the latest map software from MapNSoft. No mention from them of a new version that was a little over a month away. $183 was a substantial investment for something I honestly don't even notice a difference in but, hey, whatever. So, in March, they come out with a new version... For $25??? Are you F'ing kidding me??

I called them up to let them know my dissatisfaction and to make me feel somewhat better, the least they could do is send me the update for free (come on, I'll even send my SD card back). The person on the phone sympathized with me and said they'd pass it on up to someone more important. They told me to go pound sand.

Guess I'll be getting used to this version...

Maybe this will help?

Yeah... I'd be pretty annoyed too. Especially if I'd got bagged for $170+ within the last year. But I've seen them post when the next update is to be issued. But it's usually only about a month or so prior to release.

$170 to $25 is a HUGE price drop though all of the sudden, makes one wonder what's going on...

Heck, it probably cost $3 to make the packaging - it's pretty nice, like a hardbound book cover. My DVD NAV updates for my old Acura TL used to come in a plain cardboard sleeve w/ rudimentary black & white printed instructions for about $150.

At least this is user upgradable. Don't even get me started on the mugging I once received at the hands of the Infiniti dealer - You had to go online and purchase a coupon for over $200 and present it to the dealership and they would upload it to the car for another $65...

Hate to rub it in but isn't it technically a free upgrade if you do the download? That should be online soon. That's what I'm waiting for.. I'm in Canada so it's not even available for purchase yet. If I'm waiting, I may as well wait for the free download to be available.

I remember reading here on one of the navi threads that it was going to be downloadable, but I don't remember reading that it was going to be free.

It says "Download the latest update FREE*" Not sure what the asterisk signifies, there's nothing there explaining it. I think the $25 everyone is paying is for the SD card and standard shipping?
You're right. Definitely says free. Yea, wonder what the asterisk is for? Sounds like there's a catch somewhere.

My update was $25, plus $10 shipping, which was the cheapest shipping option (USPS) they offered when I ordered it. Funny thing is I looked at it during the day and the cheapest shipping option was $6 and some change. By the time I ordered it that evening, that cheapest shipping option (still USPS) had changed to a flat $10.

I just called them. It is now $25 plus nominal shipping. I heard a rumor that if you update there is now a safety feature where you can't search for points of interests or type in your destination without stopping and putting the transmission in park. Is that true? If so, I will keep my current map.

You can do POI by voice. You can't type in an address.

It's free for three years to new Genesis car buyers. Pre-owned or Hyundai owners pay for the update, but some Hyundai models may offer free updates.

Thanks for responding. Can you scroll through the previous destinations while driving or are you limited to like the last ten destinations?

You can scroll Previous Destinations while moving.

Yes, the rest of us have been paying, but now it seems that it is free for everyone (except for the physical media charge).
It is also incorrect to make it seem that Genesis is the only one with the first three years provided. Lots of Hyundai models now say the same thing (first three years of updates provided at no cost). I believe this goes for Kia too. BTW, a few years back (2015 was one), Kia was providing six years of updates (only one update a year, though) included. This is for the US. I think that all Hyundai updates in the UK have be free for a few years now.

so 4 mos later you're asking for a price match? heck even walmart only had 90 day return policy lol

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Same here..just ordered 14 update for my 2016 Ultimate..cost was 25 plus shipping. 10 for USPS and 12.50 for 2 day Fed Ex...decided to pay a couple extra bucks for the Fed ex method. Seems with this virus stuff on going USPS times around here for me are taking longer these days. Thought it would be more than 25...seems like a deal.

Your mileage may vary. I signed up for FedEx 2 day and they didn't pick it up for 3 days, so it took a work week.

While it sucks, YOU agreed to pay that price for that product at that time, so technically you got what you paid for, can't complain now, just take your loss and use it as a learning opportunity.

Update after 14 update install today 5/26/20. As skipgen indicates in post #16...my mileage was indeed like his ...that is it took a week for me to get the update from mapnsoft even though I paid a few extra bucks for fedex 2 day shipping.Still amazed that it only cost 25.00 plus shipping!! It took a full week to get from California to me here in Michigan. So if anyone is thinking of ordering...seems to me these days(w/virus issues) shipping USPS or 2 day through fedex is pretty close one in the same. So take your pick. Install took 35 min.(I drove around a bit while doing this) On my 16 ultimate...after inserting the SD card..the screen prompts were simple and the update loaded without issue. Have not had much time today to play with the new version to see whats new. The map screen color looks to be white ish...think I have read on other threads that may be referred to as milk if I recall. Seems to be a bit more subtle to my eye anyway. Hope to play with this new version a bit more in the coming days. If anyone has any likes or dislikes for this version I would like to hear any thoughts. I will also look around this forum a bit more to see if memebers have already commented on this...to all stay healthy and safe

Glad you finally got it! The local FedEx there seems to pick things up on their own schedule...

I like the "milk" background on the maps - makes it look a little "newer". The only glitch that I've noticed so far is that the Incoming call screen doesn't seem to always display caller info, even though that it's in the Address Book...

I've been holding off on the map update for the $180 price tag, but was surprised to see $25+shipping this month.
Ordered one and updated my map from 8.x to version 14.
