  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I am looking to purchase a 2014 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. I have one that I am looking at (2014 R-Spec 5.0 - 39,000 miles). It is in excellent shape. However, I have concerns about gas mileage - primarily on the highway. I travel 72 miles a day roundtrip. Can someone tell me what I should expect in gas mileage?

EPA rating is 15/23. Real life depends on driving habits and the type of roads and traffic you encounter.

My 2014 R Spec gets about 22-24 hwy and about 10-14 in the city (primarily Queens, and Staten Island NY.)

Agree. I get 17.5 in city and on level highway avg north of 24-25 at 75. If I lower to 70 over 26.

Thank you for that information. That is what I needed to know.

I almost got to 29 MPG hwy in my 09' 4.6, albeit during a road trip, but still pretty good.

I use "push-n-roll" technique and can get about 20-22 in the city with my 11' 4.6. It's about 25 on freeway at 75.

Okay, now that I have addressed the mileage issue. What kind of issues should I be aware of in terms of reliability? I have a 2015 Chrysler 300s with over 80k miles on it that has been rock solid since I purchased it. Will the Genesis be just as reliable or close to it?

Probably better, if you can believe that. My '09 3.8 hasn't hiccuped in 2 years. Prepare to fall in love. 8-)

Having owned 4 Gennys (see sig) and do around 40 miles round trip daily, and have to choose something today for 72 miles round trip?

The 2015 5.0 tech would be it...

Why? I say that because, although the R-Spec was a tad more engaging, it required a bit more work due to absence of several critical components, including emergency breaking and lane assist... And let us not forget about CarPlay and android auto...

In addition, Although the 2015 5.0 is heavier than the R-Spec (almost by 10%) I do find that I get better gas mileage just because driving the 5.0 is a tad more relaxing by the time I get to my destination...

As far as reliability, all I can say I have been blessed for the last twelve years of both G1 & G2 V8s and one V6 ownership.

Just my two cents and good luck with your hunt, which iIMHO is half of the fun... 🍻
