In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. hi guys, my name is brian. im from cincinnati and i have a 2012 sedan v6. i have an endurance warranty but im not sure if it will help me with this. my engine fan does not come on until i get out and turn my car off. when. i turn my ac on it only blows hot air and the fan still doesnt come on. i have no blown fuses. i do have a p0196 oil temp sensor code but i believe that is a result of the fan not working. i also did just replace my water pump but dont see how that would keep the fan from coming on. do these cars have a fan control module that could be bad? i am out of work because of covid so i dont drive it enough to make it overheat but for example tonight i am a drove it for 40 minutes and it didnt overheat but when i got out the fan stayed on for 10 minutes after i turned the car off. im a diesel mechanic so if there is an auto mechanic on here that can guide me, i will do whatever it takes. PLEASE HELP ME.

You have two issues. No cold air means the AC is not working properly. Could be it lost the charge, could be a bad relay. You may want to have an AC shop check it out.

The cooling fan is not needed when you are driving as there is enough airflow across the radiator. When the air stops moving the temperature sensor recognizes the heat and starts the fan. In the old days the fan was mounted on the engine and ran all the time and took some power. To improve fuel mileage they went to electric that only runs when needed, Of course with transverse mounted engines it was needed side an engine mounted fan would be of no value.

the ac is fully charged. i tried to recharge the system and the compressor wouldnt take in any refrigerant. i cant even hear the clytch engaging when the car is running and i turn the ac on. i drove the car for ovet 30 minutes on the highway last night and when i pulled into my driveway and opened the hood the fan still wasnt on. as soon as i turned the car off the fan came on and ran for 10 minutes and then cut off im assuming when the car went to sleep. if i sit in my driveway with the engine running there shouldnt be enough airflow and the fan then should come on. right?

But with engine running you have coolant flow through the radiator. There is at least some convection through the radiator. Once engine and water pump stops you will get much hotter in the engine. I've had the same thing happen on my cars, runs a few minutes after.

so i just walked out there and looked. engine was at operating temp, fan was off. i turned on the ac and the fan came on low. so thats a good sign. however the air coming out is still not getting cold. so the two issues now seem like i have an engine oil temp sensor code and no ac. i do know when i replaced the water pump i didnt do a t stat but that was a montb ago so there shouldnt be air in the system. plus my coolant levels are fine. i did notice that the center bilt in the water pump felt stripped when i out it back in. would that cause a misdirection of coolant flow?

Yes the fan should come on once the engine reaches a certain temp. You say a water pump was just replaced recently? Maybe something got left unplugged.?

i looked around. i dont see anything unplugged. hmm... that middle bolt hole needs to be re tapped and its leaking a little. i think im gonna remove the water pump and tstat replace the pump gasket and check everything again.

Good Idea. Start with the basics. If you have a little leak, you could have some air in the cooling system causing problems. Good luck with the repair. I hope you get it right

quick question. Everytime i drive my car like even just 5 minutes away, when i shut it off the fans kicks on and stays on with the car off for about 10 minutes or so. is that normal? or is it possibly a bad fan relay maybe? i mean literally a 2 mile drive and it does it

Yes. Depends on temperature. I came back from a short trip this morning and was doing something in the garage. Took a few minutes and the fan kicked on, ran, stopped.

That seems too sensitive to me. Something is acting goofy. Temp sensor maybe? I suppose it could be a relay, I would have to say that is more unlikely.

On many newer cars, the ECM will disable the A/C if the coolant temp or possibly the oil temp is out of range. This happened on my 2007 Saab 9-5 when the thermostat got stuck open and did not allow the engine to get up to full temp. I replaced the thermostat and the A/C came on and has been working good for the last 5 years. I believe the ECM does this to reduce engine load until the temp is within range.

Check your thermostat. Mines was doing the same thing found out it was a bad thermostat. $150 dealer part.

so all of this could be due to a bad oil temp sensor? because my cel is p0196 oil temp sensor

Update: so the dealer just called me and said it is a bad oil temp sensor and that i have a bad compressor. the oil temp sensor is causimg the fan to stay on and ..... the conpressor is causing the ac to .... not work🤷🏿‍♂️😂. $350 for the temp sensor. my endurance warranty should cover the sensor but the compressor is $1500.😳 ill be doing that myself along with a new expansion valve.

Just curious...... how many miles on your Genesis?

one thing i can say is if your mileage is low enough i got endurance and it was worth the money. ironically about a month after i started my policy my transmission started screwing up. i got a brand new one from hyundai for free... i pay $91 per month and i have no deductable. my ac isnt covered i dont think but i hope it is but i think the high mileage limits my options to this plan. either way the total cost is $91 per month for 3 years and then im covered for 3 more. to me its well worth the money. plus there are perks like rental cars i think they even provide a hotel room if you break down on the road. and i get two tires a year and towing. if your warranty is expired for me the cost of a tranny was basically the cost of my whole policy... no brainer

There is a fan control relay in the driver side engine bay fuse box - My fan was not working either and this was the problem. The dealer could not figure it out and I had to figure it out myself
Once I replaced the $10 relay all is well

I have the same problem genesis 2015 ,3.8 v6 no fan and no a/c i change the fan relay in the passenger side fuse box and still the problem someone know if ia another fan relay i am going to check the fan today
